Could be nice to have the option shortly before a race start to opt for competing in age groups - as they do it in triathlon (5-years group, when older than 35).
Could be done in races with more than for instance 200 riders. When fewer participants maybe split in age groups larger than 5 or 10 years differenceā¦

Personally Iām not interested because the spread of power within an age group category is even wider than when categories are based on power or score. Plus I want to experience the joy of beating younger people rather than getting smoked by a super fit 50 year old or someone with an inaccurate trainer. There are some existing age group races out there if you want to see what happens in the results.
What should be fixed is the results side of thing. Thereās really no reason that results canāt be available on a Tableau-based webpage, where anyone can select filters and thereby could pick whichever metrics and timeframes etc they want to display results by.

Iām 60 this year and smoke a few but get smoked by many i would love ride against riders my age who arenāt cheating though.

Try Masters SA or FZR Masters and let me know how you like it. These events are not very popular so field sizes are on the small side, and there are often time gaps of minutes with a lot of people doing a solo TT for much of the race. (No judgement if thatās your cup of tea.)
There are 60yo+ athletes doing 7.0w/kg for 60min and weighing less than 50kg with very low heart rate. Mind you they look rather more rotund in their profile photos as they struggle along on their IRL bike.
This is why the age group wonāt work in Zwift because you have no way to properly verify the performances of everyone and filter out the unlikely or impossible. I wish there was.

My preference is for mass starts and results by age/sex categories per triathlon etc.
Age group racing is seriously competitive though. The total entry numbers may be lower than in the youngstersā categories, but for cycling in particular (less attrition due to injury) the sharp end of the older age groups is extremely sharp. The big hitters are the last ones to retire, as dishing it out to āthe kidsā is likely very addictive!
Event organisers have been made aware that it is possible to category enforce events based on age group. There hasnāt been any take up of this so far.

During the ride it could show BOTH your position in total AND your position in age group. Riders in same age group could highlighted in some wayš
