Companion App UI cleanup: DELETE BUTTONS

It’s not a number, it’s a multiplier for a short period of time.

You’re not alone. The ZC part of “ride ons” has always confused me (doesn’t take much), so I never give them during a ride (I do go through the “activities” listing quite regularly and hand 'em out there). This has always been a major embarrassment for me. As an Apple TV user, it’s also a real faff trying to fiddle with the remote.

Making the thumb icon on the ZC scroll bar give ride ons would be a boon in my opinion.

I think it’s for however long the Ride on stays on the screen.

You see a drop symbol appear a few times besides the number of your amount of drops you have. For that period you are collecting more drops (I think 5 seconds or so). It is the same as going uphill (>3%) than there is a mountain symbol blinking at the same spot.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, the elbow flick is a standard sign by the rider in front, signaling the end of their pull. You’d use it whenever turns in the wind don’t happen in fixed short intervals, and you have reason to believe that the person behind won’t respond to subtlety.

Sounds like Zwift events to me.

There’s another real life application, defending your line in a mass sprint. I doubt that helps much in this game. :stuck_out_tongue:

Great feedback! How often is that bell used? Same with the hammer and toast. I’m level 50 and I don’t even know what the smiley face is for…

Some racers will probably want to keep the elbow flick. I have also heard reports of accidental activation of the u-turn, so perhaps the stop and u-turn buttons are hidden so it’s necessary to scroll right to access them.

A single massive improvement would be to re-map the thumb to deliver a ride-on bomb. Get rid of the white circle. An while we’re at it, please stop randomly spinning the location arrow.

Yeah but they should make it a thing in the game. Y’know…lol

A semi customizable HUD would be nice. Just have a sub-menu under the settings that you can click/check/uncheck what you want to see and what you don’t want to see. I don’t understand why it is an all or nothing sort of thing.

Also the noise maker/ useless buttons in the companion app crack me. Some more people mention how hard it is to give ride ons. Why Zwift haven’t at least remapped the ride on thumbs up, is beyond me. I’d be in favor of deleting all the useless ones as well.

As for as the end ride and stop buttons I see the utility in both. Maybe they could make this one easier. Stop/slow down could have something like one of these.

While the finish/end ride button could switch to a checkered flag or just move locations.

Edits: to fix messy autocorrect(s)

Bumping this again and hoping for some attention from Zwift HQ.

Yes! Maybe change the ‘ride on’ button functionality and color for a couple of seconds after receiving one, then it doesn’t have to be an extra button.

I was also one of the people fooled by the ‘ride on’ button until I read about it at some point. It’s the single most self explaining thing I’ve ever seen that doesn’t actually do what it is explaining.

Also, PLEASE turn off the tap-and-hold, at least for runners. Try holding your arm stretched out, perfectly still on one specific square cm for a couple of seconds, and keep running while you do it. You will understand why I ask

I agree in full that almost all of the buttons are useless, and I agree with all of your suggestions here.

But another thing I don’t get related to this. My phone is 3 times the size of my bike computer… So why does Zwift give such awful information compared to the bike computer? Where’s the elevation data? Or upcoming segments/sprints/KOMs?

Showing the gradient on the Dashboard screen would be great… then we could turn off the UI and use the Dashboard like a (really basic) bike computer.

At this point, I think we need to assume the Companion App is on life-support, only getting bug fixes until there are major changes at Zwift. (like a complete refactor of the code for the main game)

It pains me to write that out but here we are.

Good luck with that…:joy::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I’d be happy if they made this change. I don’t use the companion app that often either way - mostly use it to reduce power on a workout when I’m in over my head which seems to happen a lot
