You want a 3 minute break after 5 minutes?
Come on, man
I’ve never even used it but it’s a “literally who cares” sort of issue. It’s for non-competitive riding only, it gives 30 seconds for the first 5 minutes but then no option for 30 minutes after that? Completely nonsensical. Also had no option to use it after racing for an hour this morning.
@Gerrie_Delport_ODZ can you explain the reasoning that went into making it a 30s break within the first five minutes but nothing for minutes 5-30 even if you don’t use the 30s break?
It"s not.
The 30 seconds in the first 5 minutes is for if you forgot something essential. Maybe you forgot to switch your fan on or you left your one and only water bottle out of reach.
The other breaks every 30 minutes are for calls of nature or bottle refills. Or 3 minute active recoveries. Or something else.
What if you realize you forgot to turn on your fan until five minutes and two seconds into the ride? Why is it a problem to allow the 30s break at that point?
Or more directly, why is it a problem to allow a 30s break between minutes 5 and 30? Who is affected negatively and how?
OK. I’ll allow 30 seconds for the first 30 minutes. Not a problem. You can have that.
I’m still not giving you 3 minutes after 5 minutes tho.
This is Zwift. Your fan should either be close enough to reach while on the bike, or you should have a remote.
I turn on my fan before getting on the bike every time, no exception. But apparently some people forget, and have a feature allowing them to cruise at 0w while they go turn it on. My bigger issue is occasionally forgetting to fill water bottles. 30s would be really really tight to get a bottle filled and back.
I certainly get your point with regard to the amount of time that might take, but I also think you should either come prepared to the ride or be able to wait 30 minutes to get some water.
It’s not a problem that is likely to actually affect me because, as stated, it’s only for non-competitive rides and is a “literally who cares” tier problem. Group ride? Late-join. Pace partner? Drop and re-join. Or teleport. Workout? Hit pause.
Regardless of when the 3-minute break comes in, the 30-second break should be allowed until that happens, and using it (or not) should have no impact on when the first 3min is available. Not available for a few minutes and then nothing for half an hour. Note that the title of the thread is asking for feedback and not just defense of the decisions ZHQ already made.
I think the general concept is that you have to ‘earn’ the 3 minutes by riding 30 minutes. You don’t just get the 3 minutes for showing up. Just like any group ride IRL, there is an expectation that people will show up prepared, or only need a small amount of time to 'grab something. After riding for a while, though, the need for a stop might change.
If there’s an expectation that people show up ready to ride then why is there a 30-second stop at all? Is there a good reason for allowing a 30-second stop in the first five minutes but not minutes 5-30? (rhetorical question, the answer is no)
I get on Zwift to turn the pedals over. It will be very rare occasions that I actually use a coffee stop. And I don’t care if someone else does use it, especially if it’s a 30 second break 17 minutes into a ride. Why do you care?
I think it is too complicated. Many of the Zwifters will never understand the rules behind Coffee Break, why/when it appears and when not etc.
Just look at the way some people are using power ups.
On the other hand, they probably don’t care and that’s ok.
As suggested, the 30 second break should be possible any time in the first 30 minutes. There’s no reason to have that 25 minute window where taking the first break is impossible.
Don’t most routes used for most group rides, hit whatever climb segments after the 5 minute mark? Maybe the idea of getting the free 30sec only in first 5 minutes is so that nobody gets a free lift up a KOM segment? Just spitballing here…
Good for you. Ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist.
For 2+ hour rides, this feature is great. Morning coffee usually hits me around 30 minutes after getting on the bike. So the options are to abandon your group and split your ride into 2 activities, or power through a painful bladder.
Coffee stop is a great feature that I’m sure will only get better with some refinement.
I agree. I’m not sure how you came to the conclusion that I think it shouldn’t exist. If you would read the thread you’ll see that I suggested they allow the three minute break as early as five minutes in.
Feedback: being able to hit the Coffee Stop icon in the Companion App is good. Having to then confirm that you want to actually take it from within the game itself is a bit of a nuisance. It’d be handy to be able to do all the steps from within CA.
Tried using the coffee stop today on a group ride and it did not work as advertised.
Using an Apple TV, doing a long group ride and being right in the middle of the bunch, I chose the coffee stop option in game and it showed the popup with “start” and warning about 3 minute limit. I chose start and it seemed to work, so I dashed off for a quick “break”, noting the time on my watch. I was back in less than 2 minutes but found my avatar stopped by the side of the road and the group was 1:45 up the road. Check the coffee break, it said I had to wait another 28 minutes before using it again, so it seemed to know I’d used it up.
My guess is that when I tried to select the “start” button with ATV remote, there was some sort of lag and I inadvertently pressed the centre remote button twice, as I thought the first time it hadn’t registered. But what seemed to happen was pressing the the select button a second time cancelled the coffee break.
A possible fix to prevent this happening (assuming that is the explanation), would be to make the “active” control be the “cancel” option, after starting a coffee break. So that a double press doesn’t start and stop it straight away.
Sorry, what? I’ve not tried it yet but please tell me that’s not how it’s been designed!!!
Yep. You can do every step from the in-game taskbar, but only the first step from the Companion App taskbar … on my Android phone at least.
Hopefully it’s something that can be addressed sooner rather than later. I like to do pretty much everything with CA if I can
