When you add a friend give permition to call also. offer a chat facility when riding. also make this easy to mute or turn off.
That was suggested some time ago.
Most riders now use discord to chat, look for the discord channel information in the ride description.
But it will be nice if a ride leader could chat to all riders instead of typing.
