Completely off-topic point, but I think publicly exposing riders’ weights is problematic and there are systematic ways that weight can be managed in the back-end that promotes healthy behaviours whilst also ensuring fair racing… but no platform has adopted this kind of approach yet, so it’s a moot point.
Zwift just raised my monthly fee from $14 to $19 (33% increase for arguably no additional benefit to me). Though I was an early subscriber and supporter (since '18), that rubs me the wrong way. I canceled since I live in warm weather and mostly ride outdoors. If Zwift had some form of $/hour (or would have just kept me at $14/mo since I use Zwift 1-2x/mo), I’d be open to keeping my subscription.
Don’t think they are, Ray (DCR) on the The Fit File podcast said that Zwift were running a very lean org at the moment, which does help with the theory that they are trying to make ends meet with what investment & revenue they’ve got.
As a member since the end of 2016 this is disappointing. The $650 million investment barely 15 months ago got wasted pursing a hardware vision that they discontinued. It feels like the members are now bearing the brunt of poor decisions for a product that could have been taken to the next level. This on top of being outbid for UCI E-sports series. Thank goodness it’s ‘summer’ here, time to look around for alternatives.
I think the more interesting take away from that podcast was this part:
“I’m going to be doing a bit of a deeper dive into IndieVelo, one of the free ones that has a lot of very close relationships with Zwift. Like behind the scenes, some people work for both companies at once, which is really interesting and really fascinating stuff there.”
It’s just the Pride On event announcement. A series of runs and rides you can very easily avoid if you don’t want to do them, or if you’re like me it takes zero effort to avoid because they’re on fixed time slots for the whole month which don’t match my availability anyway.
They require barely any developer input, a single new kit from the art department and a bunch of established event configurations.
Claiming that these events existing is related to the subscription price increase is a big stretch.
Just cancelled. I wasn’t around for very long, but for a new guy I was moving up the ranks in the states alright. For the new price I can have a local gym membership.
Nothing received here so far, and I’d seriously doubt there is a political propaganda.
If even say bluntly there is none whatsoever and that politics is quite a different thing totally.
An email takes no time to put out, I’ve done those in my job. The time is taken in approvals. This doesn’t slow down development and is most likely done by different people entirely.
