Changes to Zwift Subscription Renewals [May 2024]

No argument about lesser value. I’ve just seen this (again in ‘urban’ settings in the game) as a way to get revenue pretty painlessly. If the vending machines in Neokyo had real product names, I doubt many people would care in the slightest. And it would be on the long list of ‘seems easy’ to code ()

But yeah, if it ended up not netting enough to pay for the salary of whoever is setting up the deals, then it’s a bad idea. I have little info about how much a video game might be able to charge for passive in-game advertising.

On the topic of emails from Zwift about the price increase, I got mine this week. While I’m not overjoyed about it I was half expecting it because DC Rainmaker wrote about this over a year ago (sorry about the broken link but apparently we’re not allowed to have linked in the forum)

See if this works (if this is what you were shooting for): Zwift CEO Signals Upcoming Price Increase, Subscriber Goals, and More | DC Rainmaker

Zwift is like photoshop to photograpy. It is the best of the breed. No quarrells there. But unless you’re elon musk or tat amazon guy, subscription sucks for the average guy especially one who works sucky pay at sucky workloads in a call centre - i know - it’s my own fault. I’m glad i sold my kickr and out of the zwift 2 years ago. Can’t justify it when price of living costs are biting everywhere. Only the most dedicated will stay on.

hello, here are my suggestions for cheaper subscriptions:

1 - zwift mini subscription (for zwift fans who don’t ride often): full access to the platform but limited to 120km per month. could be 2 times cheaper than zwift.

2- zwift cool (only for riding): access only to watopia on limited routes, no access to segments, no access to the events service, no acces to the workout service, no recording of outing data. Could be free by integrating advertising on the screen.

give your ideas :slightly_smiling_face:

Good luck Chantel, I genuinely hope they get in touch with you, but in my experience over the last 4 years of being a subscriber I can honestly say I’ve never experienced a company who more emphatically and repeatedly demonstrate they could not care less about consumer perception than Zwift.

It’s 90% this and 10% the price increase that is the reason I cancelled.

yeah just downloading here as well, but winters a long time away

Thanks for your reply! Been around for about 2yrs and I have no words about you revealing their lack of care. Remaining loyal is easier if it is mutual, so I will keep an eye on the situation and decide. They can start competing again if they do what Rouvy does…users have been asking for shared subscription for years, where R has the same price, two users. I have an annual sub, so will have to wait it out. But hope they realise the holes in the ship (seeing comments from other providers and many jumping it)
All the best

MyWhoosh isn’t for free.

It’s propaganda from a totalitarian state to polish up their image and to improve reputation by buying into cycling sports.

There is a lot of dissatisfaction regarding the increased Zwift subscription costs. At first glance it seems like an expensive jump, but on second thought… I paid monthly and am going to annual. Then it goes from €179.9 to €199.9. An increase of 11.1%. Acceptable considering the years of frozen prices. If they had added 1.5% annually, everyone would probably have thought differently. But at the same time, the whole thing would have been more expensive. Of course it is something that everyone decides for themselves. It would be nice if there was a duo subscription. My wife hardly cycles on Zwift. Maybe on a kilometer/mile subscription

I assume all those on the moral high ground don’t buy any oil based products, otherwise you would be paying for the sportswashing.

Well I’ve just signed up and looked around and they haven’t asked for bank details, so looks free to me

Wow! The price increased only by 25% in my region for yearly subscription! That is still much less than the value it provides! I am happy to stay! :+1:

For me as a user, free from money is not free from doubts. Where does the money come from to pay for development etc.?
I think I know it and it doesn’t make me happy.

So where do you think it comes from

I’ve been a Zwift user since 2021. Starting with a very basic bike set and loving it so much that I got a Wattbike and the balance board.

I probably would’ve kept my membership forever, but what I found in the last few months is that I am doing more group rides and training sessions than races mainly due to small injuries.

So after the price rise, I decided to try out MyWhoosh. I’ve got a WattBike Atom, heart rate monitor, iPhone 13 and it all sets up seamlessly. Initial Bluetooth connection to the bike can be a little bit slow.

I’m astonished at how similar it is to Zwift and just completed my second training session since yesterday. Zwift seem to have shot themselves in the foot here, because even though I’ve got membership until November, which I’ve placed a cancellation on, I’ve really enjoyed MyWhoosh.

Not tried a group ride yet and it is a bit lonely, but I seriously can imagine hundreds of thousands of users switching from Zwift to MyWhoosh very, very soon.

I can’t believe it’s free and does the same thing for me. From what I can tell and what I’ve read this is app is just going to get better and better.

Zwift has served its purpose and it’s been great, but the huge spike in the price suggests to me that intend on up winding down the company. How can they possibly compete in MyWhoosh keeps progressing?

If I could cancel Zwift from today (I’m on yearly), I’d leave immediately.

Soooo many meta-advertising possibilities in the game without annoying users since it will be integrated into the graphics. What about the bike brands featured, do they pay for their brand to be available, free advertising for them if they don’t. This is one platform that, to an extent, teaches newbies to experienced riders the affect of frame and wheel choice on performance. Anyway. They removed my post suggesting help via research to determine the feasibility of these tactics, so maybe when their titanic hit the iceberg, it will be too late. Innovate or die.

It is an Abu Dhabi based company that is propped up by the state and has had serious investment from the son of the founder of the UAE. They also offer huge money for competitions.

Some would say this is so people think more favourably of a place that has very serious questions to answer about the freedoms and human rights of their citizens.

If this doesn’t bother you then that’s fine. Others, myself included, find it hard to ignore.

I know no company is going to be perfect but to me it becomes different when a nation state gets involved that is directly persecuting, criminalising or murdering certain sections of their population simply for who they are.

This isn’t meant to be preachy or trying to change anyone’s mind. Just my personal take on the situation.
