I’ve got a Kickr V5 and am running it with QZ and a Zwift Ride frame.
Last year I pre-ordered a JetBlack Victory (at the same time as the Zwift Ride), but it was continually delayed. There were various reported issues with the JBV, and my delivery was due to ship around the time where I’d be putting the indoor gear away… so I cancelled my order. I figured the JBV issues would be resolved, and the availability might be better in 6 months when the indoor season starts again.
I figure I’ve got about a month before I bring the Zwift Ride out again, and was having a look at new trainers. It seems nothing has changed in the last 6 months. Nothing new (apart from old TACX trainers can do virtual shifting) and the JBV is still on pre-order. I can pick up a new V6 Kickr for about £750 - which will work with Virtual Shifting natively, and also WiFi… but I don’t want to buy a V6, and find a V7 is released a few weeks later - much like I did with the V5 (and V6 was about 6 months later!).
Does anyone know of anything new that’s due to be released in the next few months? I can make do with what I’ve got, but would prefer something that just works out of the box so it’s easier if my wife or kids want to use it,
Hey, not sure about new ones, but Tacx Neo 3m with zwift plays and virtual shifting - a real dream config.
You could add to it a climb simulator - Tacx Alpine - and just sit and cry in the corner by looking at it, maybe taking pictures of the config, …at this point.., you don’t even need to ride it )))
I haven’t seen any public news about new trainers from the major manufacturers. There is a topic for discussion of the next generation Kickr but I have no idea if it’s coming soon.
To me, the JetBlack’s Victory Smart @ $399 nuked the trainer industry. Wahoo and the rest are still picking up the pieces, stuck in wait-and-see mode before daring to release anything new.
A great price, and a great trainer if you get a good one… but seems a lot of people are still having issues.
Seems like that thread has been stuck for a couple of months now. The lifecycle would suggest that V7 should have been out Sept last year. Does that mean we’ll get something this year… or is there not really anything groundbreaking that they can offer as an update, so they’re holding off?
AFAIK there is simply no information out there to answer your question. You’ll have to make your decision with that uncertainty and either buy or wait.
The Neo 3M is not compatible with the Ride frame due to the shape of the trainer.
I remember the original NEO being a very tight fit with my Cervelo P5 as well.
Bringing down the price of smart bike trainers would probably be the winner. Like kickr bike. Those are way more convenient than having to put your real bike on a trainer.
As a kickr v5+climb owner (and former kickr core) I’d say go for something complimentary like smart rollers (eg elite nero, which can be had for 480-550 euro). Rollers add a whole new dimension to indoor cycling and actually feel like cycling
I think I saw a blurb where GPLama or DCRainmaker was testing a new trainer…but it might have been a reference to one of the Magene trainers. The Kickr Core has gone on sale so might be an inventory depletion in anticipation of an update. Generally speaking…now to November has been the release period for new models. I am sorta interested, my H3 is reaching 5 yrs old at this point.
Smart rollers ain’t going to work with my Zwift Ride frame though. My bikes are all MTB, and the indoor trainer is to keep my legs moving through winter / dark evenings.
So best to hang fire and see if anything new comes. What I’ve got works well enough to keep me going for a few months…
I almost went with the V6 as Tredz had a “spend over £500 and get £55” off voucher which ran out yesterday - which would have made it £745. Then I read the T&C’s and realised the offer didn’t include Wahoo or Garmin products!
I’ve tried rollers before, and you’re right - they are fun… but an MTB with a 30T paired with a 12x Eagle groupset isn’t much use on the road. I used to swap the 30T for a 36T on one of my bikes for winter and have it exclusively as a Zwift bike… but even then, I could have my legs spinning in top gear on a slight downhill section.
The Zwfit Ride was bought to pair with the JBV to be my indoor solution…
