Advice Needed: Accurate Performance Tracking and Connecting Zwift to Gym Treadmil

You can calibrate it as often as you’d like —every run, occasionally, or, as Stuart put it, until you’re satisfied. Just keep in mind that what you’re calibrating is your cadence and stride length for a specific speed. Therefore, rather than focusing solely on constant calibration, it’s more important to maintain consistency in the gait you use during both calibration and your runs.

By the way, when it comes to numbers, my OCD definitely kicks in—but I’d still recommend focusing more on your actual workout than on the data you’re recording. Trying to get a perfect recording with a foot pod can drive you crazy, so don’t let it take over your training!

It’s been a while! In the meantime, I’ve done several runs with the HRM-Pro Plus, and things have improved significantly since the calibration. Now I bring my iPad to the gym, and the accuracy is within about 200 meters, which is much better.

However, it’s still frustrating that a brand like Technogym doesn’t make it easy to connect their treadmills for exact measurements. (The treadmills at my gym are only 5 months old.)

I’ve already contacted Technogym, but I haven’t received any clear instructions on how to connect the treadmill’s sensors to my iPad.

I’ll keep you posted if I make any further progress or discover new innovations!

It’s likely the feature is disabled by the gym to prevent issues.

Just some info (also posted to other conversation)

I was trying to clear all my Zwift badges and just left with 1,000mile achievement badge, short by about 100mile, and then my treadmill failure. So my easiest option, as I not have commercial gym access, was to take Zwift on the road with me.

So instead of Zwift on iPad with Zwift Run Pods, I used Zwift on my Android mobile and Run Pods on the road. After a couple short runs like this, I started to use my new Garmin HRH Pro-Plus and no more Run Pods.

This turns out to be much more accurate solution. I did comparison of the Zwift results to my Garmin Forerunner 955 using GPS (all band) linked to my Garmin HRH Pro-Plus. They were the same! Never had anything that close using Run Pods.

I looked into it and Garmin actually calibrates the HRH Pro-Plus stride info to the GSP info so it quite accurate. I will never use the Run Pods again! Pairing so easy and always calibrated to my last road run. I trust the All Band GPS calibration vs treadmill speed/distance. I would highly recommend this solution.

Hi Martin,

I’m now also using the HRM-Pro Plus, and I have to say it’s very accurate—after calibrating it in Zwift. I assume you had to do the same? Or is there another way to convert already-recorded data from outdoor runs with the HRM-Pro Plus into some kind of calibration for Zwift?

I haven’t needed to run indoors lately since the weather has improved, but I’ll be back on the treadmill soon. Curious to hear your thoughts!

I never calibrated in Zwift. I just used on outdoors runs and then when I came into Zwift just selected and used in Zwift. It might be off if you have much different performance from you last runs (like after injury). Zwift seems to take stride info from HRM which has from outside runs. Of course Zwift and Garmin both not saying the exact details

Does anyone else know?

I’ve been using Zwift run for over 5 years for those deep winter days where it’s too unsafe to run outdoors on ice. I have an old Bodyguard T280 treadmill. The solve: iPhone with Zwift app, garmin HRM-Pro, and Stryd pod. The Stryd pod calibrated for outdoors running on a track to ensure accuracy over GPS. I then calibrate Zwift to the Stryd foot pod, and go! No need to use my garmin watch: Zwift pulls accurate pace from the pod along with HR for
hRM. Best is this all syncs nicely back to Garmin connect (to analyze training readiness etcf) and also Strava.
