For the Rhino Racing Short Crits events we decided to chop it off at ZRS 800 and divide evenly for now. We don’t get a lot of elite riders in these races so we’re trying to make them better for more typical Zwift racers. Please tell your friends and teammates, try a race, and let me know what you think.
As mentioned on Facebook not really a fan for a few reasons.
I dont think excluding riders from an event is a solution.
The above will only make people sandbag if they want to join your event. Every riders who is just above the 800 mark will only have to finish last one event to be able to join. And that wont make the sandbag police happy.
This also counts for the lower riders. I am at 473 at the moment. And can face riders up to 520. If I do well in a race I go above the 480 mark and will face riders up to 640 in your event. I would be stupid to do that so sandbagging is the only option.
The last and imho the most important. I dont think it is us who should fix the incompetance of Zwift. We are now well over 4 months in this ZRS and nothing has been fixed so far and now we got an route map that will lead us to February … if they make it. The things we saw wrong on day two of the Beta test still havent been fixed and ZRS was rushed live for some unknown reason.
If they just sat down for two days and thought about it and make a finished product before going live you should not have to change the game for them. Nice all those fancy Phd scientist they so proudly mentioned, but what they delivered just sucks and wasnt even 50% finished.
But if you raced against stronger opposition in the last 30 days, you would finish badly and your ZRS would go down without sandbagging.
With all four races going up the tarmac side of the Sgurr incline in last weekend’s Tiny Races, even with a signup limit ZRS of 260 for pen E, it was always going to be a slog for me because ZRS is not considering W/Kg ability anywhere near enough in comparison to pure Watts.
Just looking at race 4 above, a vast majoity of the top 21 finishers would be promoted under Category Enforcement to pen C of a four pen system just based on race average W/Kg without looking at 5min efforts, but here they are allowed to race in pen five of a five pen system
Then on Sunday I joined races 2 and 3 of the Inox Trilogy, which uses ZwiftHQ’s current standard pen ranges, so I was in pen D with a 350 ZRS limit for Neokyo Crit and Glasgow Crit (routes with small inclines). Because of Inox’s quirky event setup, most of the field were upgraded to C on zwiftpower, but I was left for dead despite setting a recent 20min best in the final race and I was already at my 85% seed score floor.
So much needs to improve with Racing Score, it’s a pile of trash as far as I’m concerned.
Been meaning to do this for a while, but finally got around to it, a quartet of Tiny Races from 16th Dec '23 under Category Enforcement. Look at the W/kg race averages and 5mins under the old four pen system in comparison to what we have now under a five pen system!
You might have a good point here. So the idea is that your highest ZRS stays your score for 30 days no matter how terrible you do. Hmmm I like the sound of that.
With one big but …
This all stands or falls with everyone being seeded correctly. And that is the mayor problem so far.
NO it’s not like that…your ZRS changes with each race.
But the system should track your Max 30 Day ZRS so that Race organizers could use this option as a setting for Pen Signup…i would also consider using SEED in some cases if NEW Formula is a good fit.
If the seed score was correct for everybody we would not have any need for different pens at all.
If there were enough pens and the seed was correct Paul would not have to change the pen limits and exclude riders.
Does anyone know how DNF are taken into the points calculation at the moment ?
Do they get a ZRS drop since they dont finish ?
Arent they calculated at all ?
Does them not finishing influence the other riders ?
Lets say 18 start a race.
Three riders decide to DNF for whatever reason.
so 18, 17 and 16 are DNF.
Does the number 15 get his points calculating 18 riders, or is he seen as last due to those three not finishing ?
And is there a difference in points for 15 and 18 ?
If you race an empty race, a number is displayed at the end of the activity that doesn’t = your current racing score. I assume this is your seed score?
