I have googled and cannot find a definitive answer. With a Zwift ride frame and wahoo kickr core what should the wheel circumference be set to in the wahoo app?
I have seen some say it does not matter. I have seen others say it matters when calibrating the kickr core. But have not seen what it should be set to if that is the case. I don’t understand why wahoo app even asks since it knows I am using a kickr core if it makes no difference. Makes me think somehow it does matter. But if it does I have no idea what it should be.
Hi @ , welcome to Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
Thanks for bringing up this topic with us!
Based on this Wahoo post: Wheel circumference is set for a Speed or Speed/Cadence Sensor in the Wahoo or ELEMNT App. The wheel circumference will be set for all Workout Profiles associated with the sensor.
For the most accurate data from a speed sensor like the Wahoo RPM Speed or Blue SC, measure and input your wheel circumference in the Wahoo Fitness App. An accurate speed sensor can also improve the speed/ distance data accuracy of GPS Bike Computers like the ELEMNT, ELEMNT ROAM, and ELEMNT BOLT, especially in tree cover or near buildings.
Again, to me this is vague. That response deals with speed sensors. I have the bundle you guys sell that is the kicker core and ride frame.
Really would love just a straight answer to what circumference it should be set to when using a Zwift Ride Frame and the Kickr Core Trainer.
Or if it doesn’t matter than just state that. As I am still confused if this setting even matters when using the kick core and ride frame. Again, seeing posts where some say it matters other say it doesn’t but still haven’t found a post where it states exactly what it should be if it does matter.
I heard from a Zwift staff member that it should not matter and the default value is fine
Hi @Mike_Ley welcome to Zwift forums.
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Wheel circumference settings only matter if you’re using a classic wheel-on trainer in conjunction with a speed sensor mounted to your rear hub + a cadence sensor on your crankarm, which calculates an esimated power output.
This does not apply to you (indoors) because you’re using a direct-drive trainer that directly measures your power output. This is true whether you use the Zwift Ride frame or an outdoor bike on the KICKR Core.
You can read more on Wahoo’s support site when and why to use the wheel circumference setting in their ELEMENT app here. If you have these Wahoo sensors mounted to your outdoor bike - you’ll want to dial in these settings for when you ride outside. Hope that clears it up!
Shuji thank you so much for the straight forward answer.
Wahoo should hide this field in their app when you have a direct drive trainer connected. It would clear up the confusion revolved around this.
