TT tune up

Yeah, if I did those anaerobic workouts with my current FTP I think my heart rate would be up around 165-170bpm which is Z4ish for me (my max HR is about 180ish), and I would be super tired at the end of the workout.

Is your Max HR set correctly in TR? What does your HR graph look like in Companion App for those activities? Your old activities that I can see have your HR set at about 190’ish and appear normal in CA (for effort) so maybe something is off in that area somewhere.

For what it’s worth, I did TT Tune Up just over two years ago and I’ve just looked up my “30/30 anaerobic #3” workout, which I extended with freeride to ~1hr30mins. With an estimated FTP of 287W and estimated LTHR of 174bpm at the time, 3min2secs was in my heart z3 with 13mins32secs in z5 power.

TT Tune got me into the best cycling shape I’ve been in to date, for the first few weeks I could happily do extra riding indoors and out on top, I felt like I had endless energy. Then around week 5 this workplan hit me like a brick.

That’s really helpful guys, thank you. Those stats you mentioned Steve show that something is wrong somewhere with my settings. I just noticed my threshold HR in Training Peaks is set to my running threshold. Cycling tends to be lower and my best ever 20mim HR on a bike is 147bpm. So Just put the cycling LTHR down to 147 from 155, and put my FTP from 250 up to 275. My RPE on today’s ride was 5 on the intervals. It could be my FTP is way off but my best ever 20m power on a bike was 279W and that was in 2019, when I was bike fit. With these adjustments, today’s 30/30 anaerobic ride looks a bit more sensible… but still not out of breath… Very confused. I’ll do the rest of week 3 on these settings then see where I am before making any changes. I have to say I agree that I feel fantastic from the workouts so far, lots of energy and feel I could do lots more each week.

I’ve found the problem. I recalibrated my Saris trainer and the next workout was considerably harder, pushing me into HR Z5. There must have been a massive over estimate of power output by Zwift before I recalibrated. There still is a 20W overestimate it seems. I also put a power meter on my bike and the watts were consistently 20W under what zwift said. I have increased my FTP by 25W in Zwift so kind of balanced for now. I’ll have to try and calibrate again to iron this out. It’s a bit disappointing to discover I’m not producing 300W in HR Z1, even though I knew it couldn’t be the case.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, it meant I kept investigating rather than assume it was ok. Would have made for a nasty shock when I hit the road thinking my FTP was world class only to be dropped at the first corner by the weekend warriors. :joy:
