Stride Sensor?

Zwift has discontinued the Run Pod. I checked their list of compatible devices Compatible Hardware, and the only run pod/stride sensor that appears to be available in the United States is the STRYD Footpod and it costs $299.

I’m trying to get set-up to run on a treadmill in the gym. A Runn treadmill speed sensor really isn’t an option for a “public” treadmill.

Suggestions…?

I bought used 4th generation Stryd for half the price, really happy with it. It just works, I can recommend it.

I switched to a Scosche Rhythm armband HRM, it also sends cadence data. While not as accurate as a footpod, it’s close enough, and doesn’t have the connection issues my runpod had.

Are you using a sports watch? My Garmin gives me all I need to run on a treadmill with Zwift.

Zwift pod is useless, quite inaccurate. 500 bucks is a total rip-off. My stryd is almost as accurate as GPS.

Yes, this one is the 4th generation (Gemini checked the picture). But I don’t believe the price stays like it is now - I paid for mine one (used, but still in warranty in the EU) $160 :crossed_fingers:

In hilly, wooded areas, or in very built-up urban areas, the Stryd is almost certainly more accurate than GPS.

I’m currently using the stryd pod and very happy, but while i was waiting for it to arrive my garmin heart rate monitor could give strava my running pace. It seemed accurate enough, but i could move my pace by changing my cadence. If I used the HRM before I purchased the stryd pod, i probably wouldnt have spent the money on the stryd pod; not perfect but good enough.

Hi all,
if you already own a wearable, you might not need to buy a footpod at all by using OmniBandBridge (OBB) App, that turns a device you may already have into a live footpod for Zwift. It reads the real-time running data (cadence, speed, stride) from the wearable and re-broadcasts it as a standard Bluetooth Running Speed & Cadence (RSC) sensor, so Zwift just sees a normal footpod.

Sources that work, roughly cheapest-first:

  • Xiaomi Mi Band 8/9/10 (cheap!, better results when in footpod / “running clip” mode);
  • A Garmin watch via Virtual Run broadcast or, for watches without Virtual Run support, using a small OBB Connect IQ companion app;
  • Under Armour HOVR Connected shoes, if you have a pair;
  • Any BLE RSC footpod (a used Stryd, a COROS POD 2…): OBB can fuse data from footpod with treadmill/HR data.

On accuracy (the old Zwift pod got a bad rap): in my own treadmill testing the Mi Band and the UA shoes both tracked the treadmill’s belt within a few percent.
