Racing without HRM

Exactly Tom, and that is really hard to explain that to the salesperson when you want a refund. :+1:

That said we are going to trial an Apple Watch today and see how it goes.

To close the loop so to speak on the Apple Watch and using it for HRM. I did a couple of rides today using a series 8 Apple Watch and following the steps in the article previously mentioned above, was able to connect and have my HR reading show in Zwift. So the future looks promising. Although I do think I’ll stick to training for most of my activity versus racing.

A big Thank You to all that took the time to respond to the post - very much appreciated!

If you want a middle ground, you can jump into the big group rides like the current Ride Scotland events (not the official races, but the official ‘rides’). A lot of people like to treat those very ‘racey’, and you can jump in with various groups to get a reasonably race-ish feeling.

For your info @Dave_Lincoln , all Herd races do NOT require HRM, though all are encouraged to use them.

That’s a pretty big selection of races for you.

Tom, Craig, I’m showing my newbie status here as I’m learning all this stuff. It took forever to find the Gravel Grinder workout and then I ended up repeating a session I already had done. So you’ll have to forgive my not knowing about the Herd rides - I was obviously confused with having to be invited to take part in events so I guess I missed that tidbit of info.

I’m going to hunt around this weekend and try some rides. I do believe I’m getting a better workout on Zwift versus riding to Youtube video’s though. I think it’s because I can’t slack when in ERG mode or riding in a group.

“The Herd” is a club, hosts both group rides and races.

you can find lists to all of the Herd races at ZwiftHacks link

All the Herd group rides (they are very good, not race-like at all, stick to planned pace in almost every case) and races you can find links at The Herd.club website

Craig

Thanks for the Zwift Hacks link I will check it out and see if I can’t get into a group ride this weekend. I did some training rides this week and the Ride Scotland Route 5 Muckle Yin today. I did manage 2 W/kg over about 50minutes so felt pretty good. That’s probably about my top end for now until I get some more training time in.
