Just rode with Coco on Makuri 40 and, honestly, couldn’t tell any difference.
Is PD4 enabled?
That was my experience last night, had an hour with Coco.
Didnt notice any difference, then read it had been introduced.
Not sure if that’s positive or negative feedback tbh…
I’ve been watching Coco this morning and haven’t seen anything negative (or positive). We turned PD4 on for Makuri late yesterday afternoon.
I believe we had initially intended on turning it on without an annoucement to try and see if anyone had a poor experience without knowing that changes had been made, but believe there will be an update from Flint (presumably today).
Is that globally for Makuri? Or just pace partners?
Either way, great news,
Seems like the red power numbers when being auto-braked have been turned off? Will they be turned on again, when it goes live for all worlds?
I also didn’t see any flashing power numbers, but thought that was just the way I was riding.
People still seemed to be moving “effortlessly” from the back to the front of the group, much like PD3 (whether you’d call that “surging”, I’ve no idea).
Dunno, I was expecting it to feel noticeably different (as a lightweight rider) and it didn’t. Looking forward to trying it out with other pace partners on other (Makuri) routes. So far, so good ![]()
I’m quite sure I was auto-braked, as I did a few sprints through the pace group and was slowed noticeable a couple of km/h. I’m thinking Zwift perhaps just didn’t want any red power number confusion for the sneaky stealth launch on Makuri. ![]()
From what i notice the Red numbers will not always show up when you are autobraked.
They will show up when your Draft will go from Medium to Low Draft and your power will drop from your 10s avg. Within a group you also can’t just move up so easy and at that time there is no Red Numbers to show you that you are wasting watts or that you need to push more to move up. I will be on a bike in a couple of hours and try with PP and Free Ride…i wonder if it will show up.
Short clip with very low watts and Red numbers.
So only certain auto-braking conditions result in red numbers? Might be at least part of the reason why some have found it harder to move up from behind the pack, despite no red numbers. A sort of more sticky draft oriented auto-brake being applied locking your position to a greater degree with no visual indicator to show wasted watts?
I shall today!! Since PD4 had double draft by default, is double draft enabled only for pace partner rides? Does it activate once earning accelerated drops in Pace partner ride?
Flashing red numbers is only active for events at the moment.
And yes, there are different types of “braking”, only the strongest type results in flashing red numbers.
With pack dynamics 4 enabled globally in a world, it’s for everything, events and free riding which includes robo pacers groups.
During the tour du lac nord, I had red numbers a few times (very shortly) but also I felt I could either really relax in the pack or go really hard and either work in front of the pack or try to get away. Anything in between didn’t feel right, I felt like putting too much power sometimes for no result… now i understand better why.
Anyway, globally it felt very nice.
I didn’t even know it was enabled for the tour du lac nord. Nothing about it felt off to me, I could sit in and cruise if I wanted, I could move up in the pack with a bit of effort that didn’t seem out of the ordinary.
I do remember thinking it was odd that I didn’t supertuck at one point but now I know why.
Is that expected to change once this rolls out as the default?
We are open to user feedback on that matter.
If there is a consensus that it should be ON because it’s useful we can turn it on. If not, it can stay off.
I would Vote for ON 100%. It will give some feedback for stronger autobrake.
Personally, I’d want it on. I prefer feedback that tells me what’s happening. It’s one of the reasons sticky draft was so frustrating; it wasn’t clear what was happening, or how to overcome it.
Could it be a client-side user setting?
I would like to see all the times I’m auto braked. The short flashes of red does not indicate the magnitude. Maybe a bar 0-max could work?
Different types of braking? I thought I’d followed the discussion closely and understood braking was triggered only in circumstances suggesting the rider was approaching the front of a pack but didn’t really intend to surge to the front—that is, a combination reduced draft + reduced power. For example, I thought you kept telling us that nothing in PD4 affects a rider’s ability to move up through a pack. Maybe I misunderstood. Are there circumstances other than “surge reduction” where auto-braking will occur (setting aside slowing down at the very end of a ride)?
