i only rode with coco on makuri 40 for about 8 mins last night for a warmup, and it was an uphill 8 mins, but it seemed much harder to stay with her. i was having to surge to keep from falling out the back.
that was probably not a fair amount of time to fully evaluate, so i’ll try again – but first observation is that it does feel different.
Rode 90 min with Coco yesterday and 120 min with Yumi today, both on Makuri, and didn’t notice anything different imo. I would appreciate that the visual feedback (red numbers) was active at all times to make riding the same across all things Zwift and be able to practice.
I tried PD4 race yesterday. It felt different but more realistic. About 20 people in the main A/B/C pack. Not too many attacks but felt as more honest efforts to cover those few flyers. Drafting was still possible, pack position felt more stable.
I tried 20 laps of Downtown Dolphin race with PD4 today. Mixed race again. I was dropped from the lead pack a little over half as the pack stretched and I could no longer go with A/B leaders. But that gave me some rest and I went for shorter 8-laps C-only normal race shortly after. Pace was slower obviously and it turned out to be the same old sprint finish. I would rate it the lowest out of these three races.
Overall - amazing progress since many months ago . I wish this was turned on for more races. It definitely allows for a different race dynamics.
Agreed, I was at times working harder than I’d like in the group! I think you get used to being able to drift off, maybe read something else and come back and be in a similar place but with PD4 you seem to need to pay attention. No bad thing once you get used to it IMO.
Did 45’ yesterday with Coco on Makuri 40 averaging 2.77 W/kg (PD4).
Did 60’ on 23/01 with Coco on Makuri 40 averaging 2.76 W/kg (PD3).
Both rides using the same (single) gear and the same trainer difficulty setting. I usually try to shadow the PP as much as possible.
Looking forward to trying PD4 on a long, steep descent to see if it’s easier to keep up (as a lightweight).
Same here - around 80Km or 2xMakuri 40. No red numbers although I gather they may be switched off for PP’s. It seemed slighly harder at the back, although I am not as much a habitual PP user as many others are, so its hard to say for sure.
@DavidP I agree that I think the red numbers should be ON - to give the element of visual feedback.
I like @Daren’s idea of it being a client side option… it would be nice for users to have the option to turn it off if it they don’t want it.
I also think it would be a good idea to have a pop up / overlay screen (similar to the FutureWorks Steering one we had) on first log in when PD 4.0 is fully live which can be used to highlight the new dynamics and also explain the meaning of red flashing numbers (to avoid confusion and many questions)
