That’s no different to riding on a dumb training or low trainer difficulty so not really anyway to enforce actually climbing like you would in an everest challenge to have TD at 100%.
I don’t see this as remotely the same thing. People still have to put in effort to get up the alpe whether they are on a workout, or doing a free ride. The people at the top of the alpe who were doing low wattage were doing a pretty long ride which is an accomplishment in itself.
Now, if there was a feature that let you push a button and it would propel you up the hill automatically with no effort whatsoever while you’re drinking coffee somewhere off the bike, gaining elevation for the tron at the same time, I would say that’s much different.
It’s exactly the same thing.
This thread is moaning that during coffee break, people are getting free distance and xp without riding that distance.
Doing climbs in workout mode is getting free vertical distance without riding that vertical distance.
I don’t care either way. I use Zwift for me, I’m not bothered how other people use it.
As long as it gets more people riding their bikes, it’s fine with me
Does this still apply if I’m doing a workout, but I drop my cadence to 55rpm and ride at 98% of my FTP for 2 × 25 with a 5 minute recovery valley?
Just so I’m clear
That’s nothing compared to doing banded rides. You can get up the Alpe in under an hour at 1W/kg
How much mileage do you actually receive for “free” in 3 mins!
Such a none issue
10% extra
I like this as an argument for enforcing 100% TD for anyone with the everest challenge selected (or just all the time for everyone).
Less than that if, like most people, you use them on.the uphills!
Also,10% is the maximum. If you ride for an hour you only get 3 minutes for free. That’s (removes socks) 5%.
Worrying about possible “illgotten” 2km/40xp is ridiculous when you can go farm the easy climb portal climbs at 0TD and rack up big league XP quickly.
Or even possibly 10.6% might be the maximum?
Aha. I forgot the 30 second coffee stop, right?
It’s interesting to me that we’re spending this much time talking about a feature that really only impacts the person who does or does not choose to use it. But things like the PUs, that do have an impact on races, and therefore people other than the one who uses it … that, we’re all totally okay with. (Says the guy who won a race the other day, only because I had an Aero PU at the end, and the other couple folks in the lead group had burned their feather / draft earlier in the final lap. Without that Aero, I don’t think I would have been able to pull away at the end.)
Should the extra miles we get from using a PU not count? What about the extra miles we get for being on a crazy aero bike, or crazy light wheels? What about the extra miles we get because we don’t ever have to slow down for a stop sign / light, or even slow down at an intersection to avoid being T-Boned. What about the extra miles we get when in a draft that’s much stronger than the real world, let alone if Double Draft is turned on?
Sometimes, this feels like the place where fun goes to die.
I’m on my second tub of popcorn watching this.
The actors strike won’t worry me as reading this is great entertainment.
First world problem and all that.
The funny thing is nobody in this thread has given a single reason as to why counting distance for a coffee stop is a good thing. mostly just people that are not bothered looking to argue.
Trying to cut out distance during coffee stops has the potential to cause route problems, Strava problems, and miscellaneous Zwift bugs, and there’s no downside to it other than to people who really really really care about their totally real Zwift miles.
Edit: Also I sometimes use coffee stop as a 3 minute cooldown and continue pedaling, just at lesser pace than whatever pace partner I was riding with. Should I get half distance for that or what?
potential for bugs and issues is not really a reason to not make changes or we would all still be rolling around jarvis island.
As for using coffee stop for cool down i’m pretty sure if you start pedalling it kicks you out of coffee stop but maybe that has changed functionality since first launched
That is still the case as of today
I’ve been doing this for weeks without issue. Pedaling hard kicks it out but if I just ease up to say 100w with a blue bot I stay with the group and am not kicked out of coffee stop.
good to know thanks that does complicate things.
