Over the last week I have noticed a number of riders in group rides and with robo pacers conveniently taking their coffee.breaks as soon as the road tilts up even a tiny little bit. I meant to take a photo as it looks hilarious and quite obvious what’s likely going on when the gradient goes up and suddenly coffee cups appear on all sides. They’re using it like the feather. But with much greater results.
Filing this under, “It doesn’t affect me but it annoys me.” Lol. I don’t quite understand why you would want to cheat on yourself on a training ride, but apparently this is becoming a thing. It seems reasonable that you can use the coffee break to sit in but the distance and elevation, (and maybe even active time) shouldn’t count.
Maybe I’m missing something here. Don’t push the coffee stop button. Sit on the side of the road.
Want to rejoin the robopacer? can’t you then teleport back to it?
Given the various difficulties that already exist with respect to routes (and what happened initially with coffee breaks), I suspect the likelihood of being able to adjust Zwift so that what happens during a coffee break doesn’t count in a way that doesn’t cause any problems with anything else would be pretty much nil.
The concept seems straightforward initially - turn off counters when coffee break starts, turn on counters when coffee break ends - but when you think about all the different scenarios they’ll have to account for, it’d be a real bear. If the counters stop, will you still get a powerup when you pass through an arch? Will the timer stop or will it keep going? Does the timer need to stop completely since you aren’t riding the entire segment yourself? When the assistance ends 15 minutes before the end of the ride, will the counters start up again or will they wait until your 3 minutes are up? If you’re free-riding and there’s no one around to help, will the counters start again since you aren’t being pulled?
Then don’t use the coffee stop. If you’re doing a super long pace partner ride and need a break then you can use teleport to catch back on and not count the distance. But I am curious, why do you care if you pick up an extra 2km while you’re running to the restroom?
That’s an option, for sure. I’m not running to the barricades over this: I’d just prefer they not count the miles. I’m using it mainly to get in a round of weights in my gym every thirty minutes, which is terrific and why I like coffee stop. I’m ok taking the free miles but I’d prefer that they not be counted because I count my miles carefully toward an annual goal.
I understand that Zwift miles are not real, but effort is. It just feels a little bit lame to see the coffee break intentionally being used/abused to avoid effort en masse. But that’s life and people do what they will. It’s not a big deal but it’s notable.
I actually don’t count my miles on Zwift but I count my time and wattage effort as that is what matters to me. But I do think that if Zwift counts miles and has mileage as a goal and metric for even these pretend milles, then it should be implemented as an honest and accurate metric within the context of its own admittedly unreal ecosystem.
How many miles of you used it every 30 minute of an hour ride would you get.like 2? Cmon… With the completely unrealistic speeds in game nobody should be taking zwift miles seriously anyway. Compare one hour of riding inside and 1 hour outside and you’ll see the difference. You get plenty of free numbers on zwift.
Zwift have enabled a really cool feature here. Just enjoy it. Well done zwift!
why even track distance on zwift at all if that’s the case?
it’s a game yep totally unrealistc speeds to outside.but at least we know rouhgly how much it overestimates speed but when you add to it free miles from coffee stops it adds another level of confusion which could easily be fixed if the miles were not tracked
I’m not bothered, just questioning why the need to be a killjoy. So some people don’t like it, no need to rag on them about it.
One thing though, at least with robopacer rides the need for coffee break isn’t there anymore - you can stop and teleport back to the group as many times as you want.
You can now. I’ve seen it used frequently by someone contesting the sprints in France world then teleporting back to the robopacer Genie group (so not getting dropped when the group catches up at high speed).
