Turn in game results off. Push them to Zwiftpower.
Thank you, James
cat enforcement would be nice. An A+ is in the B pen with a 6.2 wpk 20 min power…
Hi James,
Thanks for swooping in and fixing this! Really appreciate that this was resolved so quickly.
I was hit by this. I raced in the Cat ‘D’ category and this was my first race. I went for the win and looks like I got hit with the WKG even though I’ve never raced before.
I know you guys are trying to stop people from sandbagging but I was really excited about my result. I found out about this when I was trying to show my parents the results. Is there any way to look into my case specifically and see if my result is in the same spirit? Seems like I got lumped in with bad actors when I was just following the directions that ZP gave me.

Sorry you got painted with a broad brush— this is why others have asked Zwift to use the E category for new racers who don’t know their Cat and have good intentions. I agree it’s not fair to do a bait and switch for truly new riders. Unfortunately despite being warned about this potential problem and asked (on this forum by Aoi) prior to the start of the event about this potential problem for new riders and the Cat E remedy, Zwift didn’t set it up that way. If you followed the rules and got dinged, they should try to fix it and/or in some way be accountable.
The rules also state that ZADA limits apply. So exceeding the ZADA 20 min limits will get you a wkg warning.
But what we have been asking for for over 5 years is for Zwift to take control of the categorization and put people in the correct pen then there’s almost no need to dq after the fact.
If you look at B_Wallsy he was way over D limits almost in the to C category. If his ftp and weight was used to categorize him he would be a C and would enter C and not get a W/kg.
I don’t think they did a few hours ago, last time I looked around 3pm EST I don’t recall seeing that rule.
@Gerrie_Delport_ODZ they went back after the fact and changed the rules because we were complaining. Like I said, collateral damage.
O yes I know. I have been following that.
I’m just explaining how it is calulated now.
Not trying to point fingers. Maybe one at Auto cat.
The original rules posted upon announcing this event in this forum were only as follows:
"What are the race rules?
Competitors in the A and B categories must have a ZwiftPower 3 account. Sign up 2 well in advance. It’s free but can take some time, so give yourself a few minutes.
As you may know, ZwiftPower requires that racers use a heart rate monitor and smart trainer.
ZwiftPower will level the playing field. If a Zwifter competes in the wrong category, they will not earn points. So be sure to choose well.
C and D events are open to promote inclusivity and participation. Please choose the appropriate category."
After our thread they retroactively changed them which isn’t quite fair. In my original post, I asked for a change moving forward for this very reason.
I am just trying to be helpful.
Choose the appropriate category = ftp / weight.
Open means anyone can enter them regardless of Classification though, contradictory information.
Good to know Zwift has no problem discouraging new racers by over-complicating the system and then taking their results away when they push themselves.
I followed the guidelines and went to the race the website told me to sign up for. According to the sentiment in this post, that’s on me. My bad.
oh. /s
Congratulations, you’re stronger than you thought!
I totally understand what you’re saying. The problem is that Zwift set this event up in a contradictory way. I.e. Cat C and D are open but also please join the correct category as well as making a Zwiftpower account optional for half the cats and mandatory for the other.
@Lee_H warned that this would result in sandbagging and suggested the E Cat for new racers 11 days ago on this forum. So all of this was foreseen and communicated to Zwift.
B_Wallsy is a collateral damage unicorn and it isn’t his fault. He is someone with only a handful of prior Zwiftpower results all of which are from group rides (not races) in which he performed at a D level, so he signed up as a D. He enters his first race without really knowing what his performance ceiling is once the adrenaline and competitive starts going and gets DQ’d despite doing as he was told.
I am glad Zwift has seen the error of open Cats for C and D, but to my mind they owe the B_Wallsy’s an apology at minimum.
Also, this is manifestly wrong.
ZwiftPower requires no such thing, it is up to the organisers if they wish to implement such restrictions.
I sympathise with your situation. It feels as a punishment rather than an achievement. I think every Zwifter genuinely upgrading along their racing resume will have been in this situation: you pushed your all and get rewarded with a strip of your result. There may be some work ongoing to improve this in the future, but until Zwift gets there I would consider it the Zwift equivalent of a battle scar. The digital version of a broken collarbone if you will. Without it you may be looked upon as having never given it your all in a race
. But you wouldn’t want to collect too many of them either as that may get you known as an irresponsible rider. OK I may be exaggerating and joking a bit, but I hope that when the dust settles you can look back proud on your achievement and how the racing dynamics has pushed your limits. Welcome to the Cs and ride on! FYI, the result in companion should still include your finish, and otherwise you can look in the unfiltered results to find back your results.
Morning everyone.
That’s all of yesterday’s event’s updated now.
To anyone impacted as above - I’m sorry that this happened to you, but well done for having such a strong race! Please do give it another go next time and try entering the category above and seeing how well you get on!
