So, for the Zwift staff, is this thread basically a waste of time or is there some chance that the behaviour of the robopacers might be changed so they don’t blast uphill quite so fast? (the faster ones anyway).
I would guess we are just chatting among our selves. I would not hold my breath for a change.
At least we made our voices heard.
Then I won’t bother to spend more effort arguing for something that’s going nowhere.
I smashed myself with 65km with Constance and going up the Volcano climb having to push above 5.0w/kg to not get dropped isn’t my idea of what a robopacer is about.
Nor to see the Robopacer take off like a rocket at the top of that climb then everyone having to sprint like mad to stay with the bot.
Maybe if the Bot had simulated gear changes like we have to do so it also lost a bit of pace when shifting gears might make it a bit better.
You’re very lucky. All my riding buddies are much younger and fitter than me so my Z2 group would be a bit lonely
Well noone has listened to what I’ve said so I’ve stopped botheing to try.
I don’t ride with pace partners or try and stay in any particular zone when riding but reading/listening from afar part of the problem seems to be different weights having to do different things at times.
would a solution not be to have different weights for pace partners? not loads maybe just a light and a heavy one?
as I said it doesn’t really affect me so just ignore me if you like
I’ve been very clear (for months) that I’m not making any changes until we have a new UI for Pace Partner discovery.
The reason they are the same height and weight is to give people a steady level of progression from one to the next.
That wasn’t meant as a criticism of you - sorry if it came across that way.
Have just been reading the comments and most seem to be about getting dropped or going off the front at different times and it seems split by heavier/lighter riders as to what annoys them.
As a lighter rider I generally find flat routes “hard” and hilly routes “easy”, so I simply choose the route and the pace partner accordingly.
I’ve seen a few comments about the faster PP’s going uphill too hard, couldnt that be reduced without worrying about the UI?
Also, doesnt effect me as i never ride with any faster than coco.
It’s also nice because it keeps the change from bot to bot consistent so it’s easier to set expectations when you choose various bots, and the changes are very linear so easy to understand.
With the exception of the jump of .4 W/Kg between Maria and Coco.
The upcoming teleport feature is going to be great for this. Start with Maria. Right in the middle of Z2. Teleport to Coco. Right at the top of Z2 / bottom of Z3. Get tired after X minutes. Teleport back to Maria for Y minutes. Back to Coco for a bit … etc etc etc
Gradually increase X and decrease Y over the course of a few weeks / months.
Actually I find Maria to be high Z1 and Coco to be High Z2 or Low Z3. Something missing in the middle for me.
Join Maria but ride a mountain bike.
I rode a gravel bike with Maria and it was quite a bit harder than riding a quick bike with Coco.
Tomorrow I will try a PP lower than Maria with a Mountain bike and see how it goes.
That could work! Down one step from Maria, but up one and a half steps because of the bike. I like your thinking.
There are more options to experiment with for smaller differences: Zwift steel bike with classic wheels, Buffalo bike, Safety bike
I tried the steel bike with classic wheels last week with Maria and it only required about 4 extra watts, 180 versus 184. Need something more substantial!
