Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

Your 479500 XP gets remapped to the new table as level 89. So for the next 41 levels you will receive a 20% discount on every level until you reach level 89. At which point you will be on the new map and no longer receive the 20% discount. So basically, just keep riding and you will get to level 100 faster and see all the cool unlocks we have from 60 - 100.

Agreed, phased rollouts are dumb

To those defending it.
They break something every update. Admit it
They broke the Click, a feature maybe .01% of the user base has.

I have two chevrons: 57 >> 97.

That does seem strange then.

Has there been any explanation for this change in XP

I mean it truly ruins the “reward” for putting the time in to get the new levels.
If a change wanted to be made, fine. Why lower the level far below the existing XP cap.

You could have easily made 61-100 a flat 10,000 xp instead of just lowering the entire system.

Honestly I feel it kinda made it pointless.
And the drops lets not even talk about how pointless they are

With the abundance of drops the shop prices should increase

Here’s some more insight in what level you’ll land on as you transition to the new XP curve with 100 levels.

  • See the chart on this Support article which shown how much XP is needed to reach Levels 1 - 100 if you were to create a brand-new Zwift account after this week’s release of game v1.54.

For people who’ve been Zwifting prior to v1.54:

  • An XP discount reduces the XP required to earn the next level by up to 20%.
  • In transitioning existing accounts from the 60-level XP curve to the 100-level curve, we compare the delta between XP you earned to achieve your current level in the old curve vs the XP a brand-new player would need to earn to achieve the same level in the new curve. We give that difference back to you as a discount.

ex:
Current Level 20 Zwifter has 70,000 total XP.
In the new XP curve, Level 20 requires 33,500 XP.
This Zwifter will receive 70,000 - 33,500 = 36,500 worth of XP Discounts applied to reach upcoming levels.

The interesting thing about “leveling up” was the challenge of earning the new levels. Why did Zwift drastically reduce the challenge? It sure is frustrating that they are so blind to the requests of you long time subscribers. We are begging for more challenges, and their response is to make leveling up so easy that I will probably reach level 100 before my next birthday. Never-ending level 100 is even dumber than easier leveling up. You are basically screaming “we don’t give a **** about you long term subscribers!” Why can’t you just keep the numbers climbing? 101, 102, etc. Rewarding level 100 people with more drops is kind of an insult, too. Most of us want less stuff in our garage, not more. I don’t need more drops. Drops are a good reward when you are just starting out, but they are worthless at this point. If there were anything in the Drop Shop worth buying, I’ve already bought it.

The main thing wrong with the old system is that the numbers stopped at 60. Why can’t they just keep the number rolling? And maybe make each level beyond 60 require 1000 more XP than the last level.

If Zwift is nerfing the leveling system to try to keep more of the new Zwift subscribers, I hope it works but I don’t think it will. Generally, it seems like people who require their achievements to be that easy never stay engaged with any one thing for very long. At least that has been my observation. I’m sure Zwift pays a marketing team to make those calculations, though.

Rider Score 942148
60 >>> 99 (current level 60 with 3 chevrons)
5600 Until next level

So how many XP do I need to earn to get to level 100 from here?

This is the thing I find very confusing about how Zwift handles these max level increases. I never seem to have any idea exactly how much XP I need to get to the new maximum.

The way I’m reading it is the difference between level 99 and 60 in the new system is 356,500 points and I get double points for being above level 60 so I will need 178,250xp to get to level 99 then another 11,000xp to get to level 100. Right?

Hopefully Zwift will shortly.release some very cool but super-expensive Drop shop items.for you billionaires.

I need a Hope HB.TT

Perhaps it should be priced to just take all your drops

It has been brought up by myself and multiple others and the Zwift support team seems to just be glancing over it. Why is it not being addressed that most Zwifters in the level 30-50 range are going to lose out on a significant chunk of the XP that they’ve already accrued?

I’ve already cited my own numbers at level 42. Today I logged on and have two chevrons from 42 >> 97. Which also doesn’t make any sense because we know mathematically that I have more than twice the banked XP to provide a discount to level 100.

Zwift support has some 'splainin to do.

Not really. I’ve been on Zwift 6 years and used it heavily. I’ve been stuck at level 60 for months. Why shouldn’t I get accelerated xp for an the time I’ve spent on Zwift. The alternative would be fast track everyone to their actual level based on accrued xp to date. So say someone on level 40 now accelerated to 100…me to 200. Would people be happy with that? Someone on level 40 had probably ridden 1.5 to 2 years less then me. Why should I not get credit for that?

I get that having a counter of “progress” is part of the gamification that makes Zwift a bit more interesting than sitting on a dumb turbo, but why do folk care so much about what “progress” other folk are making compared to them? If the counter is going up for you then surely that’s all that matters.

I’m level 60 with nearly 1.1 million rider points with 3 chevrons. Why am I only accelerated to level 98? :person_shrugging:

this answer abve seems to suggest you’ll get the 20% discount up to level 100

Hi Brian I’m at level 60 have been for several months during two rides this evening I was only getting 20XP per KM which I wasn’t sure was correct or not at the time. I remember when moving from 50 - 60 double XP was awarded due to banked XP.

i think the pop up n screen while riding only shows 20 but you are actually getting 40 - someone above has flagged this.

Ah ok thanks never noticed that message :+1:

So I think you’re saying that the relatively substantial “excess” XP that most people in the 40s and 50s have will never actually get used up via discounts. And when such a person gets to (in this case level 89) they will still have ridden many, many more km than a brand new rider will ride on the way to 89… And the rest of the surplus XP just vanishes? So it’s not really the same thing at all as the people who have beyond-50 or beyond-60 “real excess” XP getting recaptured via doubling (which is fine, good for them). Rendering the discounting just a relatively low impact courtesy/gimmick to ease the apparent pain as people are merged - not a true 1-1 payback of XP (which makes sense, because if you tried to pay us all back 1-1, it would take forever - way beyond level 100). This means the example in Eric’s article about a level 20 rider getting discounts all the way to level 59 is misleading or maybe totally wrong? Because that person at level 20 with 70,000 XP is only going to get discounted until they get to level 31 (70,000XP in new money)?

I am very confused at this point but oh well :joy:
Kinda bummed that level 100 is worth less xp than level 60 was before… that doesn’t seem right.
