@James_Zwift just save us all a lot of time and energy and remove the events completely and come back when you’ve got a sensible plan. This is beyond my worst idea for the most stupid thing zwift could have done.
Im far from the voice of reason, but progress on cat enforcement is what everyone asked for, it might not be exactly what we thought, or it might not work, but lets give it a go.
There has been lots of talk of trying something or anything… This is probably closer to anything but atleast its an attempt and it can be improved upon. Plus we now know cat entry can be limited by more than just gender.
Thanks for your feedback.
I’m going to enter one of the races and enjoy racing against people in my category, including the ones that wouldn’t normally be there.
Hope to see you out there too.
I assume “ride data” doesn’t have to be from races(?)
Same thoughts here.
No doubt Zwift missed the mark here but it’s still some progress and @xflintx has pointed out several times this is not the final category classification, just the first evolution.
So assuming this rollout continues as planned I feel the best thing to do is take part and feed back through the means suggested (feedback form).
Yep agreed, it’s a big step forward whatever way you look at it. It isn’t quite the MVP we were expecting, but it could be better? Won’t know till its tested.
The flaws with the current category system are one of the hottest topics (among many hot topics!) and this could be a big improvement. As some have said, it may go a long way to improving things, with high Ds, Cs, and Bs where they should be (like Mr. Cruisey McCruise in the other thread).
Although I’d question why some Cs have been punted to A, that’s surely not gonna work.
I agree it’s positive just disappointed they have tried to jump to step 2 without just implementing cat enforcement based on zp cats.
That’s all we wanted and expected based on what we were being told.
This new Autocat v2 could work and I’m not against it but I can see from the comments that there are a number of riders that are not getting categorised incorrectly so this will just further delay the rollout.
My ideal scenario would be as we were all expecting cat enforcement based on zp, get that rolled out to the community events asap then look to improve it. What we are going to get here is trial races a tonne of negative feedback from some then likely have to wait weeks/months before any sign of enforcement in community events.
From the OP …
I don’t really understand why you would exclude workouts? Sure, the efforts can be shaped a bit differently, but still it’s the same engine whose performance is being measured…
I have a sneaking feeling this has WTRL fingerprints all over it and you are right its Autocat mk 2. But, its a step in the right direction so regardless of who engineered it, it is limiting CAt entry and will go some way to reducing the number of people in the wrong cat.
Not sure I fully understand the anxiety over these test events, it seems some are unhappy or at least questioning the category calculations but frankly as a D rider crying out for some sort of enforcement I only see the testing period as great news.
Really looking forward to trying one of the races and dare say it’ll be very enjoyable.
I guess you weren’t put in C then
Because they could have just implemented pen enforcement using the current cat definitions, and you would have received that elimination of cheaters instantly.
As it is, you’re going to have to wait for a lengthy feedback loop to be completed before this is rolled out further (if ever).
I think the main reason people are unhappy is its using some new AutoCat system we were specifically told was not what they were planning.
We all want cat enforcement yesterday and Zwift further complicating it at the first step just adds to the delays… I’m not against what they are trying to do but they are overcomplicating it which has obviously resulted in delays getting to this stage and will likely mean we have to wait further time after the test events before any sign of it being rolled out to the community which is disappointing.
If using MAP as a measurement, surely you would consider workouts, say something like a Ramp test to help with the auto-categorization for example.
Yeah, seems a bit odd (or very on-brand, your choice) to ignore the kind of performance from which the whole metric is derived in the first place.
Yeah should use all data to make the model as accurate as possible.
Like mentioned above, in our hill climb series riders are doing flat out efforts from 2 mins to 10 mins. This will likely push them up categories compared to others as you can’t do that in a normal race.
It’s put me into A.
I’ a high C , on the margin of B. My FTP isn’t brilliant, but my 15sec and 1 min power are fairly good but not that high as I’m heavy (95kgish).
I have 0 hope of holding a 4-6w/kg!
thats 360w - 570w!!!
380 - 570w even! its worse
You held nearly 400w for 5mins.
Where do you feel you should be placed?
