Category Enforcement - How is my category calculated? [February 2022]

a lot of it could easily be fixed by just making it clear what category system the event you’re joining on the zwiftpower website uses, and what category you are within that system. but as far as i’m aware zwift themselves haven’t finalised CE yet so i assume they’ll get round to it zoon

i hope you’re getting your salary’s worth for that but it should be automatic and also clear to the average user at a glance on the website. everyone can see their old zp category just by clicking on their profile, for example

That would be good, but there are multiple methods of finding a race, and even joining a race… The same information isn’t available everywhere.

Needs some wider design principles putting in place, I guess.

Is it in Excel?

Something else that rhymes with excel

SQL? Can’t help with that one.

Hell  .

Surely someone at HQ who can write a script for that.

There certainly needs to be some kind of harmonisation of the various measures / definitions of category that are being used just now.
My preference would be for the categories as defined by Category Enforcement to become the default and norm across Zwift. This would need comms and probably a fairly hefty overhaul of Zwiftpower I assume.

I think I’ve mentioned before that our plan is for CE to become the default.

Did they not drop all autocat events in favour of category enforcement?

I don’t know, tbh. Comments above seem to suggest there’s a mixture of uses.

Edit: depends who you mean by ‘they’.

It seems to me that WTRL aren’t using Autocat on any of their events at the moment. But they’re trying to tinker with the results from last night’s ZRL race using some Autocat elements to hack the results (because it was the entirely predictable “race up a big hill = loads of people going over the 20min power limits” issue).

I made a thing.

Maybe we can save some time by routing everyone to this?

Compete is the current Zwift categories. Everything else is Custom. I don’t see CE as the official system yet.

There isn’t any enforcement of the current Zwift categories, so by definition that would be open (can enter any one you want).

I like this idea @Dave_ZPCMR except that it promotes a ‘standard’ definition of pens which I don’t think is a good thing. Maybe it should simply be:

  • Open
  • Enforced
Enforced clearly shows the metrics used for to split the pens.

In Prolog.

That was the point of my original post above. It all needs simplifying, there are far too many systems and variables floating about.

I think people have to get used to it. Hill climbing series with CP categories and sprint races based on 1 min absolute power (examples). It will take some time to get used to that the A-D(E) categories can mean different things.

No I agree, I specifically meant different systems that literally purport to do the same thing, for the same type of event. Variety is fine if it’s clear and defined. At the moment it’s anything but that, you only have to see the regular posts on here where people say they’re a D on ZP and are confused as to why they can’t enter some D races.

How long does it take for the Category enforcement categorisation to update following a Zwift ride/race?

I ask as I’m expecting that I’ll be Cat Enforced into B but it’s still letting me into C and I don’t think it should be.
Zwift power profile is: z=2217661

Checked my Critical Power on intervals, only looking at my indoor ride data, and currently it is 310 W which for my weight is about 3.4 W/kg.
