IIRC the powerup bin was added to Zwift precisely as a result of all of us complaining about the burrito. LOL.
Sign me up for ban the burrito. Definitely had my fill after Stage 2 of Race Scotland.
did that cause any breakaways up the road?
Can’t see because of all the burritos…
LOL, figured you were in that race so might know if it made any selections
This conversation reminds me of a video that one of our esteemed forum members posted a while back (not related to burritos).
But, in it, there is a section where a former Zwift employee talks about how the Burrito power up was their most proud achievement - particularly when they changed it to affect people ahead of you as well.
I’m not joking, here is the timestamp in the video:
Wow, not something I’d be proud of
Unpopular opinion, and probably biased by the results, but in the Stage 2 race I did, I thought the burritos did a good job of breaking up the field. My impression is they very much favor the relatively stronger riders at each level, for whom they are mostly a minor inconvenience. (I used just one burrito, at the very end.)
Well, you did podium, so yes, it did seem to work well for you, my guess is #1 and #2 also thought the burrito was good
When I did Glasgow Crit, it was in use so often that it would have been easier if they had just switched off drafting
Was it my imagination, or are there three burritos available per lap for the Race Scotland Glasgow Crit?
Early on I tried to use them with some logic, but they were being let off randomly like confetti, so I ended up joining the chaos.
If you can’t beat them join them was my approach. I was letting off quite a few trying to split the group up when i know a lot of people ride it for GC.
Due to the pack sizes the pace was still very high in my race so I’m not sure the burrito had much effect.
if you don’t want burrito get to the front people and do some work
I’m just not going to race any races with only burritos again.
Exactly that. Three times per lap. The only time anyone used it tactically was right at the end. Whoever thought of giving three burritos per lap, on a five lap race to 100+ people needs their head looking at.
I went to the front and deployed mine a few times for a laugh.
How to make friends and influence people 2.0. You must be almost as popular as the guys on RGT who are apparently using the steering they introduced to barge competitors out of the draft (hopefully they’all also introduce throwable bidons).
I like a chaotic and aggressive race, but burritos all over the place were a bit much. But while we are on it, let’s introduce some more chaos and add destructive powerups:
I want the ‘tire pump’ PU. It’s dual use:
- Reduce your rolling resistance by 10% for 1 minute.
- Stick it into an opponents wheel → he/she instantly breaks down to 0 kph and cannot move for 5 seconds…
exactly.
I fail to see any added value in a feature that further benefits those that were already going to win. In addition, 90 percent of the field just doesn’t seem to be able to understand how they work. It just makes for a random race experience.
Can’t imagine lots of support at ZHQ for such a wildly unpopular feature. So to the individual there whose influence clearly has outgrown his insights as to how to keep racing fun: stop pushing for this… thanks.
