Zwift Racing Score Update [October 29 2024]

How with 10w/kg and over 900 watts for 30 seconds are you finishing behind that many riders in the same group?

Always like the formulas you guys used for categories in past series.

Those max numbers are fully rested FTS sprint points competitions with soft pedaling in between. Putting out 3.0 to keep up in a race pretty much keeps me from those numbers in the final sprint in a normal race.

I think the biggest issue with ZRS at the moment is the static ranges. It encourages sandbagging and it leaves some riders permanently stuck at the bottom of a range and incredibly difficult to improve as they will get dropped early in most races.

Surely a better method is to scrap all ranges and split riders into 5 categories evenly based on the ZRS

Ooof be careful or Training Peaks will buy it

Having made ZRS live that is in beta means none means all the races in series are in beta.

You are in Pen B under ZRS 1.3,
Now you are Pen c under ZRS 1.4.

Taken in combination, and both valid, maybe it should be declared how DNFs are handled, and/or make clear that cruising and underperforming your ability is senseless, ie. you might as well just quit the race if either scenario for example is going to have no impact to your ZRS score. However, please look into actually publishing the DNFs in results!

My score is still the same as the last reset, no decay has taken place.

EDIT score is now upped to 475 and I haven’t done a zrs race since Aug

Please, please, we have to have a way to visualize our zrs evolution. Something like the 90 days velorating history.
And zrs score should be visible before the race in zwiftpower

In the Zwift Insider “deep dive” on ZRS, Zwift said they’re working on this:

“Another possible problem may arise, so to speak, from the very user attitude to training. If, in the last 90 days, the user has failed to perform close to their peak in the relevant critical power intervals (namely, 30 seconds and 10 minutes), their seed score will be lower than it should have been. We are planning to mitigate this by establishing a threshold based on their last year performance. If their performance in the last 90 days falls below the threshold, we will use the full one-year critical power figures to generate a seed score.”

Hello Dejan, going back to your old system used in 2023/2024 would be the best since this ZRS is work in progress and I would say can not be used at the moment for racing because it still has a lot of bugs and it will take months to solve them.

Looking forward to participate in your races again.

In retrospect, I guess I should clarify further what baffled me specifically: that my racing score increased after coming in behind 14 riders who had lower racing scores, with the side effect being promoted up in racing category.

it doesn’t matter if they had lower scores than you as its not that type of scoring system

That’s why I describe the experience as baffling.

It’s not an Elo system.

Let’s hope they follow through with it soon. With all the promised changes mentioned in Ryy’s initial post here Zwift has a lot of work to do and I’d hate to see this one fall through the cracks because it’s still one of the bigger issues. Just did a community race in the 350-520 “C” pen and the race was won by a guy doing 4.0+ the entire race. He’s already climbed back to CE Cat A status, but has only done 2 RS races and so his racing score is still only at 506. Probably has at least 2 more races before he bumps up a pen.

Wouldnt the same thing apply to yourself & others who have tanked their score to get in a lower category?

Those who have been using the Tiny races to tank their score might find themselves back in their original category. I get the feeling some think its ok for them to be in a ‘lower’ category but not others.

Not when the 30s doesnt count anymore in the calculations for a lot of them.

One of the riders I follow is 54 years old, pacegroup is A and ZRS score almost 800.
His heartrate is on average about 105 where he pushes over 400 watts for more than one hour.
His sprints ALWAYS top at exact 1200 watt!
I think he is definetily cheating.
But why can he get that super high ZRS score?

Have a look at any of the 900 plus ZRS riders and … well.

They get that score because either they had a ridiculous power profile or they win a lot. They also have the highest VELO on ZR.APP and can rarely go below their floor.
