Trying to get used to Zwift for old skooler

It is funny more of a discussion point than a question or maybe both?

But when I used my trainer, I trained so the whole idea was the pedals are always moving and why tougher than outdoors, no breaks. I did the 6-train CP and I am sorry it was much tougher when I rode it for like years as I even raced it.

But more the point is I did it today and I just keep thinking pedal, pedal instead I suddenly did not pedal in some sections and was still doing 15 mph. It seemed like more coasting and just few hard efforts.

This is going to be learning getting used to this and than add the drafting which I have no clue how to do and hear can not do till I get another bike as you start with a TT? Than there are all these power ups and thumbs up, I have no controller, my computer is on another table, how the hell am I suppose to press/activate it. I do that through the iphone I can have near me? This game-ify of this is cool but can’t we just make it less game and just everyone is equal and go for it?

I know … OK Boomer but wonder am I the only one here who feels this way?

You start with the Zwift Steel bike by default, and you should also have access to a TT bike but don’t use the TT bike unless you don’t care about getting draft.

The normal way people use power ups and give other commands to the game is via the Zwift Companion app running on a phone.

Embrace the game. It’s not really cycling, it’s a thing unto itself, but it can be fun. When I first used it I thought “people please stop giving me those annoying ride ons” but now I’m the annoying one (though I turn off all the sounds from the game to make it more bearable).

Nobody’s making you coast but you can if you want. You can also reduce the Trainer Difficulty setting in the game if you want more of a steady effort. That will effectively make the hills less steep going both up and down, though it won’t increase your speed - it only adjusts the trainer resistance so it feels less steep.

Ok I understand it is a “thing unto itself”. Well said.

This does not mean can not be fun or can not lead to fitness and help in success of the bike as obviously pros use it as well. We shall embrace and learn how to make this thing work for me. I will check out some youtubers who specialize on zwift and how to get the hang of it.

Have to learn the lingo and hot to use or get these badges(??) and the different bikes and wheels and the like.

If you are a Facebook user, check out the Zwift Beginners group. It’s a great place to get friendly answers about almost any Zwift question. Joining a club is another way to get the same.
