Hello guys! Ive just bought my first bike its an schwinn 800IC, and i think im facing some power issues, i know there are a plenty of topics but they seem to be very old, so my idea is to see if some of you may have new ideas or new solutions.
First thing, i think my bike is showing much less power than im generating, why do i say that? Because my heart was most of time in Z3 or 4 which means in my case 140 - 170, but the power meter showed i was most of time in Z1 and passing 175 watts was damn hard, i mean really really hard.
Just adding one information, most of my ride (about 1 hour) was in level 35 or 39 of 800ic display.
Ive read its a common issue with the power curve of this bike, but im thinking about spend one of three tries of calibrating it.
Does anyone here have ever made the calibration and found some satisfying results after it?
My idea its not to have the most precise meter but at least something a bit more accurate, since buying a power meter is way too expensive.
You only get to calibrate it 3 times before it bricks it to the last calibration. When I had mine 3yrs ago, I had the opposite affect, mine was inaccurate anything over 250w.
That bike doesn’t have a power meter. Like most spin bikes, it creates a number that it calls “power” but your actual power is unknowable with that bike.
As Paul said it creates a number. I ended up buying a Wahoo KickR v5 and let the wife use the spin bike. That lasted all of 6mths before I bought her a KickR Core.
If you’re not going to race, but just do group rides and get some exercise, its fine. But if you are going to get more serious, I would look into getting a smart trainer. At the time, my Schwinn was actually around the same price as a Core.
For now im going to keep it, as long as i cant send it back to vendor. Maybe in a not so near future im tinking about getting one of those pedal with meters on it, but they’re very very expensive specially here where i live, Brazil.
Just giving you guys an update, last night ive made the calibration process and it worked well, i know its not a perfect power measure, but at least it showed an improvement.
Once i get into a more serious use will find a definitive solution.
So if you’re having the same problem as i had, I recommend performing the bike calibration process.
If the Favero Assioma power meter pedals are not priced well in your region, check if the Magene P715 is any better. Probably still pretty expensive but might be more reasonable.
