Cat D 1-2.5 wtt/we need an F cat?

Hi Zwifters,
I’m just recovering from a major illness but love to race. I average about 1.6 wtt/kg. I have been pushing myself but it will be a long road (haha).
Can Zwift come up with a new Catagory so that I can be competitive with Zwifters going through a similar recovery? Maybe a Cat F 1-1.8 wtt/kg. There is no way I can compete at 2.2 or even 2.5 wtt/kg.
It’s frustrating and I usually have to drop out.

More categories and adjustable categories are a common feature request so you are far from alone. The more popular races could support splitting categories further. The smaller community events can’t get enough Ds as it is, so it would be tough to split them even further.

One option that’s available to you (if the race time works) is TFC Mad Monday which splits the lower D riders from the upper D riders. Take a look and see if you can join any of their races. They are usually pretty well attended.

That could be because the D category is too broad.

I imagine that would have some effect but I don’t know if it would be enough. What I do know is that Zwift HQ could put on a beginner race series, promote it through all of their social channels and get enough participants in more categories. I’m not sure if the typical community event could do that unless it’s one of the top draws. From my perspective the Zwift HQ races have far too many participants so splitting them more would make a lot of sense. Racing 300 people when only 100 are on the screen at a time sucks, plus it means every race is basically a full gas effort from start to finish unless you’re at the top of the category.

Absolutely! So I stopped participating in them. I hate being left behind and I’m sure I’m not the only one who has stopped participating in the events for the same reason.

In addition, look for the herD Beginner race series which split up the D cat 3 ways

Maybe look at the Herd Beginner Races at the weekend, which split pen D into three.

The race categories are too broad so a subdivision would be nice but I think that there would need to be a “shifting visibility” to allow riders to see other riders above and below their cat based on the number of riders present.
