In theory there is the Zwift racing score coming to categorise riders, but it’s been very quiet on that front since the initial announcement.
@xflintx is there an update on the road map for racing score?
It certainly played a part, this is a quote from @DavidP
We also get complaints that category A is already too broad. With some users at 4w/kg racing some with FTP > 5.5…
This kind of logic is why it is so frustrating, that pain has just been passed onto the lower categories as we can clearly see from this and many other current races.
4wkg against 5.5wkg is wrong.
<3.2wkg against 4.7wkg is perfectly acceptable.
Thank you, yes that makes sense now.
Always seemed a bit odd to have a A+ category but, from what I can see, no separate races for them. Spin off from old ZwiftPower categorisation.
Anyway let’s hope new Racing Score system and introduction of more race categories arrives soon !!!
I completely agree… Why even have categories? The only reason I can see is to get more - more or less random - winners.
In the real life there are people willing to risk their lives cheating (drugs) to win races which worth nothing. Would you think that a few clicks would stop one to drastically “improve”?
Zwift turned out into a video game, it’s no longer a tool to keep fit during winter or to be convenient in busy schedules during weekdays. Also, Z Races are a perfect receipt for burn out.
Last winter I forgot the bike for 90 days, just ran and skied. Thought my bike performance would decline a lot. Guess what, I’m putting my best numbers since 5 years ago. No need to keep locked at home. Sometimes it’s rough to tun with -20C, although for me it’s funnier than be on a trainer for 90 days.
I believe Trainerroad is a best tool for those looking for performance and a planning schedule.
A watt floor should be there but it should be scaling rather than binary, kind of like how the anvil works.
Puhahahaha
Just planning the F365 series for this year - how do you do this?
it’s going to be funny on the ZRL
I highly doubt that… Comparing the number of Zwift users just cycling around in the different worlds with the number of people in races I think it’s the other way around.
yep, I believe I used my point of view (and my used of it) and I was a bit biased.
What I meant was, it’s no longer (for me) a training platform during winter and lack of time where the main focus is the real road. Zwift, in this scenario, would be for a couple of workouts and that’s it.
Lacking serious trainings schedules, and those people training specifically for Zwift races, living cycling as a video game, changed the “game” in my opinion.
It’s sauce for Zwift, steering controls, bikes and frames combinations, power ups! My goodness, so many things… I just want to do some workouts and sporadic races. But now I am being wiped out in “B” races with guys doing numbers that even pro tours would be jealous.
I hope that in the next update we will be able to drop bananas or fireballs on the races…
Yeah, I get your point. Being a Zwift noob myself, I didn’t really have any expectation when I started, but I’m only using it to make indoor training a tiny bit less boring. I will probably never do Zwift racing, as it is waaaay too easy to cheat on the platform, and if it is easy to cheat then you will always have cheaters.
We need another Zwift Location like Marioland with fireball and banana options. I reckon heaps of unstructured riders would play, Serious risk of overtraining though.
If its all in one location then if you ride there you know what you are getting into and it doesnt disturb those who want to use routes for serious racing and training.
These top guys are called “cruisers”. They stay under the ceiling of the category that they are in and only put in the min of work until it counts, ex…a climb. They know what the ceiling is so not to go over it. That’s why I don’t race anymore.
Yes get rid of WKG and lets race for points lets say everyone start D and 20pts to C 50pts to B and 100pts to A. All so lets say you need to get enough point to keep the Cat after a Season of 3 months if you donny get the point to down a Cat. EASY FIX ZWIFT
Sadly all of the above comments indicate that should a viable alternative to Zwift racing become reality, Zwift will struggle to keep membership up. All it takes is one platform to really nail the racing aspect and be deemed “fair in competition” and I foresee Zwift losing thousands of subscribers. The drain will be slow at first, then bang, trouble! It is interesting that the UCI have gone with myWhoosh and maybe this is the first step??
The UCI sold the rights to Mywhoosh for a suitcase full of cash. It’s not a judgement on the technical competence of either company.
As we see from the many responses, folk want different things from the race rankings. And as it’s a computer game, cheating will always happen without physical proximity and much, much tighter control over equipment, weighing, network equipment etc. Cheating still takes place IRL too so I can’t see how to end it.
In many ways, the pure race ranking idea is the best. Drop everything else, assign points for places and take it from there. It’s not hard to see issues of course - like what happens if there’s only 3 riders and someone otherwise “slow” ends up with a high points score?
You could weight the points given using the ranking score in ZP in some sort of formulae? Just thinking out loud
