Zwift Video File with 0 Byte - Windows PC [November 2023]

I think I read that this is apparently a Microsoft issue rather than a Zwift one - so we’re all going to have to wait for Microsoft to sort it out. I don’t expect it’ll be at the top of their priorities!

Our goal (on the Zwift side of things) is to find a way to mitigate this issue regardless of its origin - we haven’t yet identified the root cause of the issue but are actively working on it.

We are 3 months and 7 updates further and still my zwift won’t upload standard a movie screenshot to Strava. Im on a PC ffs it should work by now.

I know, and I hope you can sort something out.

Evan,

I’ve been having this exact problem where a MP4 video file of zero bytes is created during my zwift activities. Zwift is executing the function to create the video but nothing is being captured.

For me it occurred between my Zwift session on the 8th December 2024 and my next session on the 9th December 2024. See image below.

Is there any information the effected users can provide?

Regards,
Andy

Same issue here since 2024. 12. 20, glad i found this forum. a bit annoying problem, hope you will find the solution soon.

Same issue for past couple months. Please fix this.

Lovely. I spent 3 hours yesterday getting my travel Zwift laptop updated to Win11 #24 because they always run better with the latest update, right? And since my Zwift home computer isn’t new enough for video (it’s way powerful enough just doesn’t make the newness cut), I was looking forward to shooting some on this trip as it’s my only opportunity for vids. I’m sad…

Got the same issue 6th of december was the last time the videos was uploaded and shown on Strava. Since then only pictures are uploaded

My last non-zero length video capture was Dec. 28th 2024.

@evan-zwift Any update on a solution?

Thanks

Hi folks, just a quick update on this -

We’re making good progress internally and believe we have narrowed down the issue to a specific change within a recent Windows operating system update.

I don’t have any further specifics to share just yet, but we’re making good progress, we believe we will be able to solve the issue, and I’ll share back more as soon as we have it.

Hi all, another update from Zwift HQ:

We have a fix for this issue that we were able to get into the upcoming game release, version 1.83.0, which is planned to start rolling out next week.

We’ll share another announcement once that version starts to roll out, and if all goes well, it should be available for all Zwifters by the end of next week.

Awesome news! I’ve really missed the video capture (and so have the people who follow me on Strava :joy:). Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well and the fix makes it into the upcoming the release.

Looking forward to this. Spent ages digging around to find out that I can’t make the suggested changes because the Security app I use overrules the Windows Defender permissions to allow app folder permissions, but ignores what I set up. :rage:

i cant see video again … all video files captured mid-ride are zero bytes in size.

Did you not read the post that you are replying to? A fix is coming next week.
