Zwift update and erg function is no longer working for workouts with no erg button visible

Following the most recent Zwift update the erg function is no longer working for workouts with no erg button visible. I have a Mac. I have tried disconnecting and resetting things as per everything I could find about how to correct this issue. It was fine prior to the update but now it seems to think my kickr cannot have any resistance controlled so effectively no longer a smart trainer. Seems like there may be a bug? Please help

Which trainer is it?

It’s a wahoo kickr 5

There are some reports on the 1.120 release topic about really old trainers with resistance problems, however I understand some change was made to fix that, and I would only expect it to affect you if you have really old firmware on a Kickr V5 (the reports involve trainers that are much older than yours). First thing I would do is shut down Zwift, run the Wahoo app, and check for firmware updates for the trainer, then test again. Let me know what you see when you do that.

Current firmware version for the V5 is 4.5.74 so that’s what you are looking for.

I have updated the firmware but unfortunately there is still no erg mode when I connect to zwift

The orange connection only does power and cadence and does not connect to the other boxes (resistance or controls) I’m pretty sure it always did resistance prior to the update and maybe controls?

Any more tips

This sounds different from what the other people were reporting since you are not able to pair the trainer for resistance. Since I’ll be offline for a while I recommend writing to support@zwift.com, send them a link to this forum topic and ask for help.

I would also like to know what you are running the game on and how you are pairing the trainer.

I’m running it on Macs latest update but it worked fine the day before I updated Zwift

Pairs by Bluetooth

It also doesn’t work if I pair through phone or use the phone app

So on the pairing screen, you see the Power tile finds the trainer and pairs via Bluetooth, and then on the Resistance tile, you click on the tile and see absolutely nothing there? And you check the ALL tab when you’re doing the Resistance tile pairing and still see nothing?

The problem they fixed yesterday seemed to be affecting really old trainers that don’t support Bluetooth FTMS, but the Kickr V5 on firmware version 4.5.74 does support FTMS, so whatever they did to fix those older trainers presumably doesn’t relate to what you’re experiencing. Support for that feature was added for the V5 in June 2021 firmware.

Similar but different. Wahoo K5, Mac OS UTD or ATV or pair through Companion. Since 1.120, All see BT connection but K5 does not report power, Zwift does not give resistance. Same thing in My Whoosh. All apps deleted and reinstalled. Wahoo app can not connect to Z5 by Bluetooth. Was going to buy a new Kickr but I saw a different smart trainer was also having problems

Since it doesn’t work in the Wahoo app, you should contact Wahoo support. Test after unplugging the trainer, remove it from any power strip, plug it directly into a wall socket. If you have a second device you could use to run the Wahoo app I’d check there as well. Could also use the nrfconnect app to see if it’s visible via Bluetooth

@Sue_Hincki, I see you were initially on the Wahoo factory firmware 4.0.1 that shipped with new KICKR V5 units on August 22nd, which didn’t support FTMS yet like @Paul_Southworth. From August 23rd onwards I can see you are now on the latest 4.5.74 firmware, which has FTMS support (and many other improvements). That said, as of earlier today August 24th, the previously impacted trainers that were experiencing the specific resistance issues with ERG and/or SIM modes not working or being unable to pair resistance should now be resolved with a backend update on our side so everything should be working as before. Could you please confirm if you are still experiencing the same issues or if everything is working normal again for you?

Yes thank you everything now working as before
