Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE - Chain Lube

Hello,

I have been using the Zwift Ride with KICKR CORE and have put around 3000 Km on it.
It came pre-lube and I haven’t put any lube on the chain myself.

I recall reading in the documentation something like: ‘Do not add chain lubricant to the chain on your Zwift Ride. The chain is pre-lubricated to the correct specification.’

I recently touched the chain it seems pretty greasy. Does it mean It’s all good?
Shall I lube now? Shall I have done it earlier? At what intervals?

I know nothing about maintaining a chain. I read the thread: “/t/chain-lube-and-maintenance-for-zwift-ride-frame-bike/642992” which turns into a debate of Wet/Dry/Wax etc..

Not sure what to do. The reason why I started to look into this, is because I find the ride is ‘noisier’ than it was before.

Thanks,

Grease on the outside of the chain doesn’t tell you anything about how well-lubricated it is where it matters, i.e. internally.

If the chain sounds different it’s likely quite dry and yes it needs lubrication.

Hey @J.B_Laplace

Welcome to our forums! This is Alejandra from Zwift.

Big thanks to @Steve_Hammatt for the tip shared!

Sounds like you’ve been putting in a lot of miles! Great job!

Since your Zwift Ride comes pre-lubed, you generally don’t need to add extra lube unless you notice excessive dryness or an unusual noise. If the chain is still greasy, it’s probably not necessary. That said, if your bike is getting noisier, a little maintenance might be helpful.

Even indoors, chains accumulate dust and dirt. Give them a quick wipe with a dry cloth to remove any buildup. Since chain lube preferences can be a source of debate, checking for chain wear or dirt buildup on the drivetrain might be the next step.

If, after checking this, the noise intensifies, we recommend contacting us for a more thorough inspection to isolate any hidden damage and perform a thorough check.

Keep us informed or contact us. We’ll be happy to help.

Have a great day, everyone!

Hi @J.B_Laplace welcome to Zwift forums.

Hi,
Thank you for the info and the official maintenance rec from Zwift!!
Before reading it and as per @Steve_Hammatt recommendation I had decided to relub.

I bought a degreaser kit, removed the old lub, put on new one.
I can’t say that I noticed a major difference in sound but I’m sure it didn’t hurt, especially now that I see the we should relub every 90h of riding !!

Thanks all.
