Zwift Ride user here. Mid ride yesterday, I lost the connection for cadence and resistance and couldn’t get it back. I’ve unplugged it, charged everything and same issue today. At start up, it shows that cadence and resistance are connected, but as soon as the ride starts, the connection appears to be lost. I spin away, and nothing happens. All 0’s
Is this a known bug? I believe it’s a Bluetooth connection, so not a WiFi issue?
I connect through the Zwift app on a Samsung tablet.
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I looked at your recent server log history and I noticed that your Ride controllers are still on factory firmware version 1.0.0. Very important to update to the latest version. Here’s how.
I also uploaded one of your log files to zwiftalizer.com, which is a great third party tool you can use to diagnose connectivity issues. It can get a little nerdy, but it notes that there were 4 Bluetooth dropouts during what looks like one of the brief troubleshooting sessions you did last night.
Bluetooth interference is common. We have a support article to help guide you through the simpler ways to improve that situation, but you sound technically savvv. If you are, there are smartphone apps like nRF Connect that will tell you what’s happening with the RF signals in your home while you’re Zwifting.
I followed your recommendation and updated firmware and it happened again today. I paid a lot of money for this device, I cannot continue to lose workouts because of the signal being lost. Please provide a better solution.
Hi @Stefanie
I’m looking at your server logs and seeing something a little confusing. Are you running the Zwift main app and the Zwift Companion app on the same tablet? Please uninstall the Companion app from that tablet if yes, and let us know if that clears things up.
The Companion app is intended to run on a separate smartphone from the main app running on a different computer / tablet / Apple TV. There’s a lot of cool things it can do to complement the main Zwift app.
In the first reply, I followed your instructions to install the Zwift companion app and update the firmware. Now, I’m being told unistall the Zwift companion app because it’s on the same device.
I only use my tablet for Zwift. Not my phone. So, how do I update the Zwift app firmware on my tablet that you said was outdated?
You don’t. The Zwift Companion app should be installed on a separate smartphone to update the Ride controller’s firmware. Here are handy links to the Google Play store for Android smartphones, and Apple App Store for iPhones.
I am still losing my connection. 2 of my last 3 rides. The Zwift Companion app is up to date. It is on another device. What do I need to do to maintain a connection? This is becoming incredibly frustrating.
these are pretty notorious for having poor bluetooth receivers, and I’m not sure if there is an option for an external bluetooth dongle?
Can you try connecting everything through your phone’s companion app and bridging the signal to the tablet? That might be more stable?
Also, to confirm you are updating the firmware and not looking at the wrong thing on the companion app, make sure you are going to the “Zwift Hardware” menu in the companion app. This is where it would search for the ride frame and update the firmware on the controllers.
@shooj I have lost connection 2 more times this week. This is occurring too frequently towards the end of my rides and I cannot reconnect. Are there any solutions? I have full connection to everything else. The companion app is current and I have followed all of your other guidance. At this point, if I can’t complete a ride, the software is of no use to me. I don’t know what else to do.
Have you tried connecting everything through Zwift Companion as suggested? Did that make any difference? You’re having some sort of Bluetooth reception/transmission problem.
If you’re pairing through Zwift Companion and the same thing happens, then either you have Bluetooth interference from other devices (not necessarily other BT devices, it could be microwave ovens, garage door openers, the list is very long) or your trainer is faulty.
