Zwift Play Firmware Update Hangs [September 2026]

We have paused the rollout of Zwift Play firmware version 2.0.1 because a small percentage of Play owners have reported freezes during the firmware update process.

  • The controllers’ LEDs light a solid yellow/orange color.

  • This may affect those using Zwift Companion on an iOS device.

If your controllers are unresponsive:

  • Attempt a hard reset: Press and hold the power buttons for 30 seconds to reset your controllers.
  • Contact the Zwift Support Team directly if your controllers remain unresponsive.

If your controllers successfully updated to firmware version 2.0.1:

  • There is no need to roll back to a previous firmware version. The known issue had not affected your controller during the update.

We will update this thread as there’s news to deliver.

Hi,
I have Zwift-Play controllers that I’m trying to update to the latest firmware. When I go to the devices in the Companion app and start the update, it says “Firmware is being installed.” However, the controllers aren’t glowing yellow, as described on the Zwift website. Also, the progress bar under “Installing” isn’t moving. I’ve already tried this on two different mobile devices and let the update run for 15 minutes.

I recommend contacting support.

Also if the devices you’re using to update them are running Android, you may find it’s a bit more reliable on an iPhone/iPad.

Same here, just got a fresh pair of zwift play controllers as a replacement. But its stuck on this screen. Nothing actually worked.

@Max_P02 @pattn
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Thank you both for flagging this on our forum. It’s unusual to have two reports in as many days, so I’ve let our Hardware team know.

However - for one-on-one assistance, it is best to contact my Support Team colleagues if you haven’t already.

I’m having the exact same issue. My Play controllers are recognized and my phone says it’s downloading the firmware and when it goes to the installing screen zero progress. I’ve restarted my phone. Restarted the controllers. No progress and the firmware isn’t updating. I’ve let it sit for over an hour with zero progress on the install bar.

didnt know there was a firmware update for the controllers, i will have to see if mine update later tonight

I’ve merged your thread under this new dedicated thread. Thank you all for flagging this to our attention.

thanks @shooj

support just has sent me another pair, current version 1.3.1 (pair before was 1.1.1.), both not accepting the firmware update. As the seem to work on current version as they should, no need to switch them again, but maybe the info helps your debugging. My old but broken pair was 1.1.0 and able to be updated.

They all dont change color, stay blue, while app says: installing.

HI all - Zwift Companion v 3.89.2 (iOS only) addresses the issues in this thread. Please visit the Apple App store and update when it’s available to you.

Has the zwift play controller now been un-paused? Companion app does not see that it needs to update the firmware.

Hello @Schalk_Marais_CRYO-G
Yes. If you are using Zwift Companion on an iPhone, please update to Companion v 3.89.2 prior to patching the controller firmware.

Hi, I just upgraded. My left zwift play updated to the 2.01 and is working fine. But m right is just showing red now. I can’t reset it. If I keep the Z button in for 30 seconds it goes off and then on again. Still burning red. Can you please advise. Only the on Controller is now working now. How do I reset it.
