Zwift - PC W10 - Slow loading of "Events" - Activity saving failure Time outs high GPU usage

Hi all,

Recently getting back onto Zwift after injuries. I updated the software this week and have had nothing but problems since.

System:
PC - Windows 10 64-bit
Processor Intel(R) Core™ i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz|
Installed RAM|32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)|
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070/PCIe/SSE2
|Edition|Windows 10 Pro|
|Version|22H2|
WIRED ETHERNET - Internet connection is solid though Zwift seems to be having trouble.

Zwift
Game Version: 1.76.0(135866) rc/1.76.0

General issues are

  • Very slow application load time - various “non-responsive” flashes -
  • 100% GPU load at the Zwift home screen once it loads.
  • Events and 24/7 Group rides etc all take 5-10 minutes to load / show up in the application.
  • If I join an event - or group ride - most of the time the avatar is put on the road alone, N.Valid around etc, after a few minutes may or may not join the group.
  • If I make it into a workout or event - the activity cannot be saved (endless Time outs etc) shows up in Z power but the .fit files in the activities folders hold no real info and are all 1kb in size. (I have manually uploaded inprogress .fit files in the past but this was not possible this time)

What have I done?

  • Allowed everything through the Windows Firewall - disabled it completely. No change
  • I have a VPN on my machine (Mullvad) - Zwift is always set to bypass this - though I uninstalled to test - no change.
  • Complete uninstallation of Zwift, manually deleting all associated files as per guidelines on here. No change. Additionally I used “Revo Uninstaller” to search for anything that may have remained with the same result.
  • Router rebooted
  • DNS Cache cleared, flushed and reset
  • Network Reset on PC
  • Network adapters disabled / enabled /
  • Changed DDNS routes of the Ethernet adapters

I installed Zwift on a second machine (an old Dell XPS 15 9560 with Windows 10) with the same internet ISP, though it is using Wi-Fi rather than Ethernet. This works perfectly and as expected. Game loads fast - everything ready to go in a minute or so.

I am starting to thing that something is causing an issue on the PC. Graphics card drivers ? Everything is up to date (which may be the issue…)

Is there any way to identify what might be causing all the issues on the PC. I have attached a log file if that is of any use.

EDIT UPDATE:
Thought of trying to run on the PC using WIFI and not Ethernet. This instantly improved loading time of Events, Getting into group rides and the activity saves without timeout.

Just noticed your log but cant click on it.

Hi Edward,

Had trouble including a link in the post - I just now put it into a code block which should work better for a copy and paste. I don’t believe clicking it will work.

Everything looks similar to my logs, CPU and GPU could do 4k so 1080 should not be a problem, the only thing I notice and I don’t know if its a problem is Udp Network Connects, you only have 6 connects where I usually have about 30 to 100, you also have 4 UDP Network Timeouts where I usually have 0.

Done it so its clickable.

Thank you for having a look at that Edward.
Yea - interesting about the UDP Network Timeouts - bit out of my wheelhouse, the networking side of things.
I did swap over to Wifi and things are working significantly better which I am trying to find a reason for.

Have you already rebooted all of your network equipment?

Hi Paul - yes, forgot to include that above. Thank you.

  • Changed DDNS routes of the Ethernet adapters

Have you tried connecting via WiFi on this machine? Should tell you if there’s a problem with the Ethernet side of that PC.

Have you tried swapping out the Ethernet cable? Connector terminals can break as can the wires inside.

It sounds you put a lot of faith in Ethernet, but I have personally had native Ethernet adapters go bad more than once. An external USB-to-Ethernet dongle can be a simple solution if you do discover there’s a fault.

Hi Sjuji,

Yes - I edited in an update to my original post earlier today showing that running on Wifi things were working fairly well, much better. Everything else seems to work fine on the Ethernet cable which is what I find hard to understand.
I have a USB to Ethernet dongle that I can trial to see if that helps the situation. Also, the current ethernet cable runs through a couple of network switches, not sure if that could be causing an issue.
