Zwift freezes on level up [Linux]

Since I’ve been able to level up again, with the introduction of levels above 100, I’ve noticed zwift freezes for a few seconds (long enough to worry it might’ve crashed, but it does recover) when the level up happens. This happened both times I leveled up so far (100 → 101 and 101 → 102).

Running the game on what? I’m suspicious about this being some kind of video driver issue because of the heavy graphical effect of the level up animation, but I’ve never heard it reported before. Wondering if your setup is unusual.

I am running on an unusual setup as in I’m running on linux. But my hardware is more than capable (AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB, 32 GB ram) and I didn’t have performance issues leveling up in the past (when the fancy animation was already being used).

Ok, that’s too far from the happy path for me to offer any useful suggestions. I hope you’ll post an update if you figure it out. Nothing wrong with the hardware specs of course.

the same thing happens to me. lv 104 the screen freezes for a few seconds

Please share details of your setup. If you’re not running on Linux then you might be able to get support to investigate it.

Also wondering if you have video screenshots enabled or if turning it off changes anything

I have video screenshots disabled. That’s unstable enough on windows, I’m not going to tempt my luck with that on linux haha.

If you want to share a TrainerDX log analysis I would look at it. I’m curious if it tanks when the level up happens, but I guess it might not get us any closer to a solution.

I leveled up at the end of the race (scotland), which took me 32m26s to complete. I’m not seeing any fps drops or anything noteworthy at that time.

Yeah I guess we wait for some more people running on supported systems to check in with their details or contact support.

I run this on a Windows 11 system with NVIDIA GeForce 1650 Ti and have no performance issues or slowdowns or anything like that, runs fine at 60fps/4K Ultra… except for this level up fireworks animation.

After reading this thread yesterday, I leveled up to 104 this morning and watched as my screen froze for about 1.5 seconds with the 104 and then continued.

The Video Screenshot did NOT capture the freeze. It was only shown on the display.

There’s something to this - this is what I have to share from my perspective.

FWIW There were a couple reports on the FRR discord server yesterday of folks leveling up and freezing during a race (Stage 16 of 21). Don’t think they were on Linux.

I hope you told them to come over to the dark side and post their experiences on the forum or contact support. It really does make the difference in terms of directing attention to a problem. I’m regularly passing problem reports on the forum over to the staff so they can build a case to look into something like this.

11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-11700K @ 3.60GHz (3.60 GHz)

ram 32gb

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 driver ver 596.49

Windows 11 Home 25H2 update last 14.05

For all level-ups, this was the shortest-lived.

My MacMini M2 had a freeze for a second or two when I leveled up to both 101 and 102.
I do not have video screenshots enabled.
I manually took a screenshot at 101.
I assumed automatic screenshots of “important” events didn’t happen, so I don’t have a screenshot of the 102 level up.

Hi Paul, I did ask them to post on the forum and gave them link. Not sure if they will…

I do have video screenshots enabled, but using M4 Pro Mac Mini (the base Apple spec, not an upgraded build to order machine). I would have to get my M2 MacBook air and run Zwift on it to see if there is any similarity with your experience. It should be pretty similar to your M2 Mini in performance.

I leveled up to 107 yesterday and had no freeze up, that’s been my experience since the level up process started again.

I do have automatic upload of screenshots turned off, the only ones I have are the ones I take myself.

I have a computer here with W11 Pro for Workstations 25H2 on it and a Radeon RX9070XT (along with a W6800 Radeon Pro). I might run Zwift on that when I’m close to level up to see if I get a crash. It’s using the Radeon Pro graphics drivers.

After sharing your video with the staff, I heard back that developers are investigating it

lv 106 not freezes on level up. no changes on my pc only my tv received the update lg c2 43
