Seeing how popular the Big Spin Drops was, Why not have a series of races with Drops rewards?
Such as,all receive 1,000 drops, top ten receive 5,000 drops, Top 3 7,500 drops, Winner 10,000 drops. While it may sound like a lot to some people, remember that 10,000 drops was the prize reward for a Stoneway Sprint segment that took less than one minute. There’s a lot of xp bonus options but drops are hard to come by.
Zwift would need to be careful when giving in-game rewards for top placements in races given how many people already have enough incentive to sandbag. They could give rewards for attending races, but more rewards for winning (top 10, podium, win) would cause more people’s weights to gain just enough to hit a lower category for more rewards.
yeah, I don’t think there should be rewards for races, there is already too much cheating going on and incentivizing winners will only cause more cheating.
Good incentives:
Give out a ride on bomb - you get 50 drops
weekly streak bonus - not just XP, also drops
complete a group ride event or workout - extra drops
complete a route - extra drops
etc…
Totally agree with Aaron and you, don’t think this is a good idea at all.
Too many folks using all sorts of ways to cheat which aren’t closed off. Those have to be solved first. I still see many people with massively fluctuating weights or wildly inaccurate power figures.
I know I’m barking up the proverbial wrong tree with that and that Zwift is a game and cheating is part of the fun (until it impacts your ride or race), but surely that can’t keep going.
People will just use random power/cadence/heart rate bots to get some of those (except the ride-on bomb). I see those quite a bit already - they are easy to spot because the power and heart rates fluctuate way too much every 10 seconds. They use these methods because they probably suspect Zwift is watching for those fixed power bots.
I would not want to see it tied to a particular race/series but could be something like route/climb of the week where you do any race/group ride you get a bonus.
You-tubers seem to talk endlessly about cheaters. They are quite the whiners but make it their main focus of their videos. I can only assume it is because this is a winning strategy for views and comments. Fewer people will watch a “I came in 17th place” video. But, we would all watch, “Cheater steals 10,000 drops from me!”
Really? Look at how users took advantage of other incentives like bike upgrades, teleporting to the tops of mountains to descend for free distance. If there is an advantage to be had, a certain population of zwifters will find a way to exploit it.
exactly, so it won’t be taken seriously by Zwift and will get out of control. I wish Zwift got rid of known cheaters, but that very rarely happens. However, I do see people get banned for life for saying things in chat that are pretty tame honestly, especially when they are taken out of context, but if you constantly change your weight and height - no problem!
It’s not drops, it is XP, but Zwift are about to launch Four by Four (starting Monday May 4), which: “…brings four ways to race into one month of competition. Each week, you can take on ZRacing, Crit, Epic, or TT — mix formats or stick to what you know. Show up, race your way, and earn rewards as you go.
Complete any stage to earn XP, with 1000 XP up for grabs for completing your first stage.”
The whole issue of cheating in all of its forms needs to be taken a lot more seriously and cleaned up as a priority.
But everyone says “it’s fun” and “it’s a game”. Well, it’s fun and it is a game until the fun and games impact their experience and then it’s an outrage and something must be done, immediately!
So, no drops then. For a lot of people, we want to increase drops, not meaningless xp. (meaningful to some people, yes, but not really anything once you hit 100. (and I was shown that I’m at 170 in theory at least.) Stoneway Sprint segment drops were crazy popular. I think it would get more people racing than an xp bonus.
Just more promotion of ZHQ events to get people to race races that are already busy. And the first time user experience for users in zracing is pretty bad.
