Why is Makuri Islands rotated?

Why is the Makuri Islands map rotated compared to the real-world coordinates? What is the technical or game design reason for that? Here’s the same ride (Island Hopper) on Zwift vs Strava:

If I recall correctly, France is rotated as well.

I was again curious about this; was looking at the map of the new routes in France (the Hell of the North routes) compared to the real-world; and started again looking for information. Found this here my own thread from 3 years ago with no replies from Zwift…

It’s due to tectonic plate movement since the map was originally made. The updated version was taken by satellite.
