Why are my results so bad?

Hi, just finished a 10 mile race on Zwift. I put out an average of 176 watts and 2.7 W/kg. I finished 24th.

Most people above me had lower figures by far. The 3rd placed person put out 155 watts and 2.1 W/kg

Does drafting make that much difference?

Yes, it does

I have not completed one of the Zwift Games Crit Cade races so I’m not too sure about the other factors which affect this type of race and the w/kg. Some thoughts off the top of my head:

How much draft is actually being gained in your race by other riders - after the first 4-5 minutes the field seems to be strung out. But yes if there are large packs of racers and you are riding hard on your own there will be quite a large difference in w/kg.

How does hitting the steering targets affect your performance - did you get plenty of boosts or did you get slowed a lot?

Where there additional in game boost power ups? - did you use them well?

Are you on the best performing bike possible for your game level and have you levelled it up to stage 5.

Do you coast downhill when you can?

You are relatively light so heavier riders will generally produce slightly lower W/kg on a flatish crit course.

You were the highest w/kg in the race so there probably are a few things you can put into place to help you improve in the future - but best to try these out in normal ‘non gamified’ races where you must race in as large a group as you can.

[ or Yes it does :joy:]

Hi Ian, thanks for your very helpful reply. I hadn’t realised there were power ups etc, I thought it was a normal race. I’ll make sure I don’t enter one of these again, it’s not my kind of thing
