Wattbike beta software

I have got a Wattbike atom next gen an Apple
Watch and a MacBook Pro for running zwift. I am on the beta software and last night I managed to get zwift controlling the Wattbike while the Wattbike hub recorded all of the data like your pedal strokes etc. tonight I thought I could get my Apple Watch to pair first and then be the read only player so I can get some power and cadence data on my indoor workout and then let zwift control the resistance but I couldn’t get it to work. I tried for a good hour to get it to work but no luck.

Has anyone successfully managed to get the zwift beta software to work?

Another reason for this is that vitality life insurance only seems to accept Apple workout data for the vitality points. I have tried using strava, zwift companion and garmin connect to send the data to my Apple health but nothing seems to be working.

What beta software are you referring to? There is no Zwift beta software.

There is beta firmware available for the Wattbike but that doesn’t work well with Zwift, so you shouldn’t use that.

Hello. It was the Wattbike software I was referring to.

Go back to the regular Wattbike firmware (not beta) and try again with Zwift.

This came up recently…

Unfortunately the Apple Watch is notorious for not working well with Zwift.

I’m sure this will fix it. I was just wondering anyone got it to work reliably

I don’t think you’ll find anyone here who’s had success with that.

I have had some success but I want the watch to record a workout for my vitality points and then zwift to have my heart rate for zwift and strava stats. I have a chest heart rate sensor so I now just record the indoor cycle with the watch just getting the heart rate sensor on the watch to work with workout. I then connect the wattbike and chest strap to zwift and use zwift like that on my MacBook. I was just hoping I could connect the Wattbike to the watch for power and cadence data and the MacBook to run the bike as per usual.
Going back to the Apple Watch you have to be careful when you start your workout as if you have the companion app open on your phone then when you are on the pair screen it boots the watch companion app and ends your workout even if you are selecting the chest strap. If the Apple Watch would take ant+ I wouldn’t have an issue haha.

I don’t have experience with the Wattbike but I do wonder if you would have better results with an ANT+ dongle in the MacBook, preserving the Wattbike Bluetooth connection for the watch. I have used an older Apple Watch so I haven’t used this feature but my understanding is that the newer ones support pairing power meters.

(Not legal advice)

I was thinking about this. Can’t zwift control resistance with ant+?

Yes it can

Did you see any unusual side effects? I upgraded the Wattbike firmware and enabled beta features. This means I can now ride in Zwift, Rouvy and MyWhoosh and see the Wattbike Hub metrics as well as the app course etc. I have been advised that what ever connects second is the controller, and so I normally connect the Ride App second and enjoy the ride but can also see the added info. It’s also useful as I can see what gear I am on in non-Zwift apps.

Around the same time Zwift started behaving oddly, I have shared the following with Zwift and Wattbike support;

"I have just done two rides, one on MyWhoosh and one on Zwift. I had the Wattbike Hub open and recording throughout both (and the changeover). The MyWhoosh ride had climbs and I could feel them I had to drop from gear 12 to 4 depending on the gradient.

I then did a Zwift ride, and massive difference, the flats felt normal (gear 12) but as the gradient changed the resistance felt less, I could increase cadence and was going up 4% not really feeling it, oddly when I went downhill it felt as if there was resistance and if I didn’t pedal it felt like I was slowing down.

During both rides the power, cadence metrics appear nearly identical to that shown on the Wattbike hub give and take a little for the lag/smoothing algorithms."

Namely as the gradient increases in Zwift the resistance decreases, it is easier to cycle uphill than down or on the flat!

Hello. I have been using the beta for a while now. But I have also bought an ant+ dongle so I have my Apple Watch connected first. Then the Wattbike hub both over Bluetooth then zwift is connected over ant+ and it’s seems to behave as expected. If I try just connecting my Apple Watch and zwift it appears to be ok but there isn’t any resistance when you go up hills. It works fine if I connect the Wattbike hub and then zwift ignoring the watch.
I think you might need to start fresh when you switch apps.
It would be great if you could control what is connected in the hub App or something.

Have an ANT+ as well so may try that, have managed to get Zwift working by unchecking beta in WattBike App, applying update then doing a Set Zero State in Wattbike App (advised by Wattbike) and now Zwift appears to be back to normal, but I can’t use the dual BLE function anymore.
