W/kg Being absolutely locked......how?

As per the title.

I just did TDZ Fire and Ice and i was sat behind the eventual third place for a good portion of ADZ climb and i swear their W/kg did not move one decimal from 5.0w/kg for the entire duration of the climb.

That number is constantly fluctuating, how can it be absolutely locked on a certain value?

Btw, i looked up the rider on Zwift power and they seem legit so not accusing any cheating but i just don’t get how…..

could be using a head unit to control the resistance of the trainer and have it locked in ERG mode? Or they are just really good at pacing.

Could be that they are working hard enough to reach and remain at the design limit of their trainer for reporting power, and the trainer may be complete rubbish like a spin bike. Or using an unknown dumb trainer with a speed sensor which would be similarly capped at a value they might be able to reach (though in that case you could tell they don’t have a power meter).

It was Mathew Lefthand, do you know who that is OP?

No…explain.

Legit rider. Possibly ERG mode power smoothing.

He’s got the distance world record (all verified) for 24 hours indoors

I know who it is, I was asking the OP

Maybe he will turn up and explain who he is…

Anyhow, unrelated except for the course, yesterday I was chased up the Alpe by a mid 50s age rider pushing between 4-5w/kg and 110-128bpm heart rate… That kind of cardio fitness a pro would be proud of, never mind some random. It didn’t seem realistic. I’m pretty fit at the moment with a very low heart rate thanks to so much riding in the summer heat but nothing like that.

Instead of those AI workout recommendations (which seem to be hated) - wouldn’t it be amazing if there was an AI trained to recognise unusual performance and flag / hide those…

Also on ADZ there was discussion a few days ago about how many “incredible” record times would be set on ADZ for the TDZ stage. People wondering about sub 30 minute laps, even sub-20 minutes… Does that tell you there might be a problem?

With the big gradient changes on ADZ no normal person using normal gearing would stay that perfectly on a set power. They always fluctuate a bit.

But that would impact a paying customer. . . Can’t have that.

move along.. this wasn’t a race. If you want to run an Erg-based Z3 effort, knock yourself out.

Its all good.

As I said in my OP, I wasn’t saying anyone was cheating, I was just curious how w/kg could be locked like that but as pointed out, ERG mode set externally likely.

Btw, it was the person mentioned in this thread
