What you’re running into is the basically the minimum wattage that the trainer can produce, which for your trainer I’d guess is at about 90rpm cadence about 80 watts minimum; I think I read it’s because of the heavy flywheel used? But that doesn’t mean gears 1-10 are unusable. You should find that there is differentiation in those gears if you ride any large gradient hills in Zwift. Give the Radio Tower climb a try and I think you’ll see what I mean.
Agree to disagree. ![]()
When you’re using virtual shifting, gear ratio concept exists only IRL, right? Because there is no from-rear combination.
Hence, the only way to simulate a 0.75 ratio is using gear 1 on Zwift, which is something we totally can do.
What would be your expected behaviour?
I wanted to share an update in case it helps anyone with the same issue.
I contacted Elite support, sent them this thread and Migue’s post, and asked for the ZIP file for my trainer. They provided it, and after I completed the process steps on Elite’s website, virtual shifting started working on my trainer.
One note: I did the reinstallation on an Android phone, even though I normally use the Elite apps and Zwift on iOS. I couldn’t hack it on the iOS—probably due to my technical skills (or lack thereof)—but after the reinstallation through Android, virtual shifting works fine on iOS as well.
At first I also thought that the problem was the Avanti. Until the moment when my workout ended in the middle of the hill, where I was calmly cooling down on a 10 degree climb in ERG mode, I was riding up the hill with a 90 cadence and ~60 watts. The moment I crossed the finish line, ERG switched to virtual gears and 1st gear suddenly became almost 2x stronger - 90+ watts. So, the problem is not in the Avanti trainer. Because in ERG mode it has no problem with low watts at high cadence.
I encountered the same problem with my Elite Avanti and Zwift Cog & Play. With Firmware 36 installed the virtual shifting was not possible, an error occured that my trainer firmware doesn´t support this. I desperately tried to upgrade the firmware (V37 was shown as new version on the Upgrado App) but with no success. Finally after almost sending the trainer back I checked the firmware of the click controllers in the companion app - and there was an update waiting (sic!). After installing this everything seems to work fine!
I just bought an Avanti, same problem as some here, event in v36 i have lot of issue.
I mailed them…. but is it possible to you to send me the firmware you received by mail?
Greeting,
It’s been working flawlessly once I turned off WIFI from the myETraining app
