Training cadence question

Noob to smart trainer but half way through 12 week FTP builder workout with natural cadence at 100 erg mode, did the tour for all and cadence drops to a steady 80. Am I cheating erg mode in workouts and should drop cadence or should I increase cadence in races? Or should I just ride more think less. Cheers.

Hi @DaveMarshall, I think you should vary your cadence more during workouts. As you know with ERG mode the faster your cadence the lower the trainer resistance, if you slow down the cadence the trainer will have to increase resistance to hit the watt target. Many of the plans have certain intervals with cadence targets as well. Try some of the Build Me Up Plan workouts and you will see. At lower cadence you are building more muscle as the resistance has to ramp up while you slow down.
