A couple of rides ago I accidentally tapped the button in the blue pop up menu that increased the resistance of my trainer. Since then I cannot reset it to where it used to be. Now the watts jump up to (or drop down) 20 above or below during workouts. Without knowing the correct term, I’m looking for “neutral” or for where it was before I messed it up. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi @JBock welcome back to Zwift forums
Shuij at Zwift HQ here. Looking through your server logs, it looks like you might be running into this during a structured workout, is that correct? You may have unintentionally increased your functional threshold power (FTP) number. That would result in the symptoms like you’re describing which persist the next time you log in.
You can try manually decreasing your FTP number in your game settings. Instructions are here. By how much? I’d start by decreasing 10, then try a workout you’re familiar with.
You can manually lower / raise in small increments until you get the resistance back to where if feels good to you, but I would recommend you take an FTP test to quantify your ability to hold a certain number of watts over X minutes. More information on that here.
Thank you for your response. I can do that, but I don’t think that’s what happened. Can my FTP be adjusted in the blue pop up menu? The issue started during the cool down portion of a workout. I brought up the blue menu looking for the emoji face to give a group ride-on. Suddenly the resistance became so strong I could barely pedal to achieve 75 watts. I discovered the trainer resistance icons and got it to reduce resistance. Today’s ride I had to adjust the trainer every time the watt requirements changed. My trainer can’t adjust automatically anymore. I don’t want to have to manually adjust resistance all the time to get the correct watt output. I had to look up how to even find my FTP to know what it was exactly and how to change it. So, I’m not sure how I could’ve changed it unintentionally. Thanks again!
It sounds like you’ve turned erg mode off. The next time you load up a workout, you should see a “Use Erg mode” radio button. Click it. ![]()
Thank you for your response. I believe ERG mode is on because I can see the readout at the bottom of the screen. I’m wondering if I need to do something of a reboot with my trainer like with a computer? Can I uninstall and then reinstall my trainer?
If u just believe its on, its not sure, if its on or not. Can u just try toggling ERG to check, if it makes any difference?
By ‘the readout at the bottom of the screen’ I’m guessing you mean the power graph. This has nothing to do with erg mode. It is simply a feature that can be turned on or off that shows a graph of your power output over the past 10 minutes.
Ok. When I turn ERG mode off that power graph goes away. When I turn it back on, it returns. That’s why I believe it’s on. I’ll check it for sure tomorrow on my next ride. Thanks!
when you say you turn erg off, how are you doing this? is it possible you are pressing the wrong button on either the companion ap or keyboard? as mentioned above the power graph is nothing to with with erg mode, its an on/off switch for it so its not related to a mode as such
Yep, I definitely learned something from this. #1 That I was confusing the power graph with ERG. I must’ve hit the toggle for ERG accidentally, turning it off. When ERG is off that’s when the trainer resistance buttons show up. They disappear when ERG is turned back on. Today’s ride was mostly back to normal. Thanks everyone for your patience! Ride on!
