Toggle the pass/overtake sound

9/9/2026 UPDATE: Below was my original post from 9/8/2026, after I thought I had discovered that the two tone sound I was hearing over and over and over on my first RoboPacer ride was an alert that I’d passed someone. I was unable to reproduce the sound again the next day so I’m chalking it up to a glitch. There was still some useful back and forth here so I’m leaving the thread. If I’m still unable to reproduce the issue on my next two rides, I’ll add a last post and mark it resolved.

I’ve finally figured out that the constant two tone sound is the pass/overtake alert. Please add an option to mute that sound. When riding in a pack it’s constant and so unnecessarily distracting. I’d rather not mute all game sounds but I might have to do that until such an option appears.

I’m not really sure what sound you are describing, I’ve never heard of a “pass/overtake” alert sound.
It could be the “Ride On” thumb sound you’re describing. That sound happens when the thumb appears and a slightly different one when the thumb disappears.

Even if this is the case, it would be good to have an ‘off’ for this sound. (Sure, you can turn off game sounds, but maybe people would like to be a bit more selective.)

I’m pretty sure it’s a pass/overtake sound but I’ll try to get a recording of it tomorrow and post a link if that’s allowed in this forum. It was pinging constantly today and at one point I was riding side by side with another rider and it must have happened 10-12 times in a row without a second in between, one right after another. There were only three of us and no thumbs over us so it was definitely not RideOns.

It wasn’t the bell sound? Some folks love to “spam” the audio of everyone by pressing that.

My audio is permanently muted for Zwift to avoid this.

Maybe it was some sort of a glitch. I tried to reproduce the issue again today and didn’t hear the sound even once. Ugh.

I’m a new user of Zwift and loving it but I have to say, Zwift doesn’t make it easy to learn how to use the product. I’ve had to ask simple questions of people in group rides who are so nice and have helped me understand the meaning of things in the screens that really should be explained in a user guide. That plus this forum, YouTube, and Claude+ChatGPT+PerplexityAI have been my homemade user guide.

We’ve all been there! That’s a big part of what this forum is for, really. While a user guide sounds great, there are so many little things going on in Zwift that it might quickly become a tome that no one would actually read. So, whenever you have a question, ask away! You’ll pick it up more quickly than you think, and soon you’ll be answering questions from others. :+1:

I don’t know if this is updated regularly, but it might help?

I think it’s better to search support.zwift.com and bring things up here if there are gaps in the documentation so they get improved. For example if you’re interested in stuff that appears on the screen, the HUD article is a good starting point. If there’s something missing, please point it out. One last update on my original post: It’s now been almost a week and I have done hours of riding since the original sounds happened. I have not heard them since. I guess it was just a computer glitch of some sort. The closest sound I’ve heard is the once per second tone that happened at the end of a RoboPacer ride I took yesterday, but I don’t think that was the sound I heard originally.
