Time Trial start line, race timer, and checkpoints question

How do you determine exactly where a TT race start line is in Zwift races? I see a message on screen that the start line is approaching, but it’s not clear to me where that start line is. I’ve not seen a race timer versus the event timer which includes the time before the actual start line and I’ve not seen any checkpoints or checkpoint times. Is there a way to see any of this? I just completed the Loop de loop de loop time trial which was great, but I’d really like to be clear on exactly where the start line is for the TT race time so I know when to start cranking out the watts. Older posts on this topic have shown a race timer and checkpoints on the left side of the screen where segment leaderboards appear, but I don’t have that display. Wondering if a setting or if that just doesn’t exist anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am fairly certain they use gun timing (ie when your timer hits zero). You should go from the start anyway otherwise you lose the benefit of the accelerated start.

That segment leader board you talk of it i think is just in Bologna. which oddly is one of the courses with an actual lead in that does not count to your time.

I think most other worlds you start from when you leave the pen but it would be great if zwift sort out the onscreen timing for all events.

There’s an on screen message that the start line is approaching shortly after leaving the start pens so I guess I just need to hit the gas once I see that message even though I don’t know exactly where the start line is. I’ll have to look for a faint line on the road or similar after the message pops up, but I was looking for something more obvious. The first Zwift racing iTT I did was in Scotland on the Epiloch route I think and I was a bit miffed when I was cranking hard out of the pens and then the message popped up that the start line was approaching after I’d already expended some big energy. I also never put it together that the elevator at the start pen means you get a rolling start until now. Would be great if Zwift provided more of these details in the event description or at least a link out to them so you knew how to fully give your best effort.

Protip: Search out a YouTube video of someone TTing the route, then you’ll hopefully be able to see exactly where the clock starts ticking.

I think the results are generally timed from the gun but the on-screen timing does its own thing for maximal confusion.

That is the problem the onscreen clock is not what counts as your result time in most instances. same in every race. as most use gun time

Not here … the clock starts when I said it did and his finish time in the race results on Zwiftpower matches what the in-game clock said when he passed under the finish arch. :man_shrugging:

yep that is one i think works like bologna with an actual lead in so time is correct.

overall its just stupid that different events use different methods and the on screen clock is wrong in nearly all races.
