I reread the Zwift Insider article and it appears, according to Eric, anything over 807,000 XP when you reach level 100 will be exhausted using 4x accelerated leveling. He has an example that didn’t make it clear how this would work with those of us currently under accelerated leveling ending before level 100. A commenter asked for further clarification for someone with the situation in question, accelerated leveling ending before 100. Eric said definitively that any XP over 807,000 will be exhausted by 4x acceleration.
If accelerated leveling turns back on at 807,000, that would be great. But as I read it, the accelerated leveling starts back up at Level 100, if you have > 807k. Still reading all the discussion on the ZI post though.
My understanding from going back to an old post here and asking elsewhere is that the “![]()
” levelling is “transition” from the old levelling curve to the new one. This is a 20% discount on the XP required for each level.
“![]()
![]()
” is “banked XP” levelling (i.e. chewing through XP that was acquired above the existing level cap at the time).
For any levels up to level 100, that 2x XP. i.e. 40xp per km rather than 20xp.
For any levels over 100, it’s 4x XP; so you’d get 80xp per km ridden.
What I’m told should happen once your “transition” finishes (at level 93 in your case), is that you should go from ![]()
20% discount acceleration to ![]()
![]()
2x acceleration. Once you hit level 100, you should then work through additional XP above 807,000 at 4x until you’ve used it all up (I presume that being when your actual level matches the level your XP is good for).
I think we need a new College/University level course (maybe 200-300 level, definitely not first year) to teach how leveling XP works in Zwift ![]()
And to think that the alternative would be simply using the same XP-to-level table for everyone…
Was there ever any official justification on why they insist on doing this thing just about the most complicated way imaginable?
My (very) unofficial explanation was …
… because they hate us.

money, this is common in the ‘pay to play’ gaming industry,
I would love to be able to easily answer the question “how does accelerated leveling work?” without telling someone to put the kettle on and settle in for the most amazingly long winded and boring explanation that also involves interrogating them about what they see on the in-game menu before the question can be answered.
I’m fine with the 4x accelerated leveling for myself. I accept that some people don’t like it but for me the problem is only the difficulty people have understanding it.
This is typical business development. Zwift is entering the FAFO phase of its story arc characterized by the hydra that is hubris and VC money. Some pull it off, many do not. Will there be a Hercules?
But does anybody pay Zwift anything more because of this? I would presume proper XP farmers have an all year subscription either way and for someone like me this is just one in a long list of frustrations that encourages me to limit my active subscription to a few months a year.
Zwift will never disclose. Based on the behavior of many other gaming companies, engagement is money, XP is engagement, therefore anything that drives XP is going to make them more money. It comes as no surprise that all of this is happening in the context that Zwift just bought its biggest rival (Rouvy) and is now ‘collaborating’ with its other biggest rival (Training Peaks). So, we can hoot and holler all we want. Where else you gonna go to ride your bike online? Woosh? Lol.
They got a plan. Your money is part of the plan. We shall see what the people think…
