It’s seems like after April Fools “Superman” day, the supertuck animation for the avatar is broken; it shows my avatar pedaling rather than tucked. When my speed drops enough then the pedaling stops but starts back up once my speed is high enough to supertuck. Saw this on the descent from the climb of the week.
On the HUD are you seeing zero watts and cadence? If those things are not both at zero shortly after you stop pedaling (like within a few seconds) then I would be looking at the trainer rather than the app.
I’ve observed buggy behavior from the supertuck feature many times but it’s always been intermittent. Like I coast down the Radio Tower climb, watts and cadence quickly go to zero, the avatar never supertucks, then I pedal and coast again and it works. I think that’s a problem with the app since the trainer appears to be doing what it should.
I have noticed the issue of the 0 watts but the avatar continues pedaling also that started happening after the April 1 Superman day. I was not able to ride on April 1, but on April 2, I could not supertuck.
In the past, I’ve had to occasionally do the coast, short pedal, coast again as @Paul_Southworth said, but that hasn’t worked since April 2.
I don’t have cadence shown on the HUD, so I will have to double check that next time I see that.
There have been no updates to the KICKR SHIFT for some time, so I am confident it’s not trainer related.
Yep zero cadence zero power on a downhill with no one around me, over 60 kph and my avatar is pedaling away. When it slowed down to 40 kph, the pedaling stopped to coast, but when the speed got back above 60 kph (when there should be a supertuck) it started pedaling again.
OK that doesn’t sound like the thing I saw. I was seeing no pedaling, zero cadence, zero watts, and no supertuck even at high speed on a steep descent. What’s the trainer?
Nothing has changed with the trainer. All of this worked perfectly well before, for months. The change has been since the April 1 “prank” with Superman animation. It seems like the code got messed up in the following release (on an Apple TV) since then. I didn’t know if Zwift was aware of it. It’s not a big deal… just an animation issue (unless I’m not getting the aero advantage of supertuck)
do you force close it after every use?
I have not heard this reported until you started this topic. Maybe it’s a bug, maybe it isn’t, and I always maintain my curiosity about whether something changed or where the change occurred since “nothing changed” is literally the most common unsubstantiated assertion I see around here. I read that as “the user is not aware of any changes” which is very useful information but remains unproven. Electronic devices change with or without our awareness of it and with wireless devices that is even more difficult to establish since change can occur in the air. I absolutely do not doubt your report of a problem and I’m interested in understanding what caused it. Sorry I do not have a ready answer. On Apple TV you also have very limited ability to troubleshoot since you can’t get at the Zwift logs. If you can replicate this problem easily then I would also try running Zwift on another device to see if it happens there as well.
I use a Neo 1 which estimates cadence rather than having a sensor.
It reacts differently dependant on the descent.
Came down the Alpe the other day and no tuck despite 0 Watts as a non zero cadence was being reported.
Tried the little spin trick to no avail.
Another hill later on and worked perfectly.
Box Hill rarely works for me but that’s been the case for years.
I’m up the Alpe tomorrow so will see what happens on the way down.
I have the same exact bug. Riding the Tron bike on Zwift Ride setup. I’ll be coasting 0 watts and the animation shows no pedaling but then as soon as i meet the supertuck criteria (speed & gradient) the animation changes to show my avatar pedaling rather than supertucking. I wonder if it just the animation and i’m still getting the physics of the supertuck?
Yeah, that’s what I wonder too. We have the same setup; Zwift bike and Tron bike in game.
Given that there was a Zwift update very recently that specifically affected this animation, and that coincides with the onset of the problem… it seems very likely to be a bug. I wonder if the in-game bike choice matters for some reason… I’ll see if I can get a video on my next decent and submit a bug report.
Well, as I said, the change was an update to this specific animation in Zwift before April 1. So … yes, there was a change.
I saw another rider on Tron bike yesterday ahead of me on the ADZ descending in supertuck so it was working.
I’ve just descended the Alpe on the Tron and super tuck was working for me.
There’s definitely something somewhere that makes it not work but it’s not related to anything recent as I’ve had instances of this for years.
Since the last couple of updates, your avatar keeps pedaling if you’re on the tron and in a position to super-tuck.
You should compare notes with @Dallas_Trinkle_DIRT
I’m not sure which bike he’s using. I have not personally noticed any problem other than occasional and intermittent failures that have been going on for ages, but I also do not ride the tron bike.
Does it work properly when you’re on some other bike? Are watts and cadence both showing zero when it fails?
I had this issue too (Tron). I didn’t see the supertuck animation, but the avatar did manage to keep high speed for me so I wonder if it is only a visual issue.
Thank you for raising the issue, folks. I’ve flagged this up for further investigation at Zwift HQ. Intermittent issues with not getting into super tuck position can happen, but the reports of pedaling animation at 0 cadence instead of tucking sounds new.
I too have this issue since the April fools update. Watts and cadence at zero but the avatar busy peddling away and never supertucks. I am using the tron bike and use Apple tv and a 2nd gen Wattbike Atom.
