Looking to change the wheels and frame for my next personal challenge after maxing out on the S-Works Tarmac SL8 frame with DT Swiss ARC 1100 Dicut 85/Disc.
Any suggestions on the next frame/wheel combo to go for? I do love the look of the Dicyt 85 but it just looks a little boring now, would love a coloured wheel!!
I don’t race so that’s not a concern but what would be a good combo for a mix of average climb and flat rides? cheers all.
Other good all-rounder bikes available now are the Canyon Aeroad 2024, and the Pinarello Dogma F 2024. Or if you want to get the Specialized P74 “halo” bike, you need to max out two more Specialized bikes before you can buy it. I did the S-Works Venge in pursuit of that goal since it’s good on flat routes.
cheers Paul @Paul_Southworth Love the look of the Pinarello upgrade so gone for the Dogma! Pricey at 1.75m but what the hell. Keep the Swiss ARc’s on it?
The Dogma is an all-rounder that is more climbing focused than the others. The Aeroad is more aero focused. Honestly for anything other than racing these are all fine choices, it doesn’t really matter. On a hilly route I would choose the Enve 4.5 wheels, or the DT Swiss ARC 1100 65’s (not disc) but there’s nothing wrong with using the disc setup if you’re in cruise mode on a relatively flat route. I doubt you’ll notice much difference compared to the S-Works SL8.
@Paul_Southworth thanks for the wheel recos. To be totally honest at 89kg’s I’m not winning any awards or king of the hills so doesn’t matter a huge amount. That said I am trying to increase my climbing rides slowly (not massive climbs) following a long injury so this all gives me motivation!! I’ll look at the Enve. Most of my rides at the moment are nice and easy pacer 1.5wkg so depends on the routes they take. If I feel strong enough I may do Alpe for the second time!!! Appreciate it.
Anything with big hills you are best going for the Aethos and Meilenstein wheels. Aethos you must buy, but the Meilenstein are unlocked from the ADZ spinner and don’t cost anything.
Aeroad 2024 is quite good.
Project 74 is slow and heavy on hilly routes even at level 4. Also takes ages to unlock and expensive. Not worth it.
With the rumoured new bikes on the way all halo bikes might become worthless.
With 18 frames and 13 wheelsets coming this year I am saving my drops for now. Dont want to spend drops on a frame and upgrade it for 1600km and 1.9M drops only to find out they have another one that is even faster a month later.
I might consider it if we could trade in frames. But for now I will just wait and do with the frames I have upgraded.
