After the update 1.97.2 in September the pairing process takes a long time. I have selected my Kickr V5 via BT as the preferred device. It’s the only available option. From that the pairing screen opens, it takes more than 20 seconds until power/resistance and cadence are connected. My Zwift Play and HRM were not powered on when I measured this time. The time taken is not less if these are powered on. As I remember, the pairing before 1.97.2 was much faster. I can live with this extra delay, although it is annoying. I am using the latest Zwift 1.103.0 but the problem has been present since 1.97.2.
Fo comparison, MyWhoosh on the same computer and the same Kickr V5 connects within a second using BT.
And no, I don’t have Zwift and MyWhoosh running at the same time! And none of them are running in the background.
That lag is expected and normal when pairing over Bluetooth. ANT signal behavior is a little different, and feels more instantaneous. That can feel nice as long as you’re not using a trainer that supports virtual shifting (which must pair over Bluetooth).
The sequence you should use in the Pairing Screen is: Power: If using Bluetooth, this one needs to be first. Resistance: The Power signal needs to bond to the game before Resistance signal begins to broadcast. This accounts for an expected ~10 - 15 second delay. Cadence: Controls: If you’re using a Zwift Play / Ride / Click controller, which you are not. Heart rate monitor: If using.
Side note: I checked your server logs and your KICKR v5 is using out of date firmware version 4.3.0. Although it won’t change that delay, it is a good idea to update to current firmware. Wahoo shows you how on this support article.
Thanks! I was unaware of the update for the Kickr V5 as I haven’t checked for updates for a long time. I have now updated my V5. Always good to have the latest updates. I thought the V5 had reached end of life as there never came an update for virtual shifting. I have read that Wahoo says it has too little memory which seems very strange as the original Kickr Core, which is much older, got the update for virtual shifting. Probably just a market strategy.
