I am nearly 69 years old and have had both of my knees replaced, I have accomplished 90% of the routes and have reached the end, mainly due to the extreme elevation routes being all that is left. I cannot continue without Zwift’s help. I do not race or use the training options, I ride just the world routes. I am requesting Zwift consider creating a “Senior World” or “Lower Impact World”, where the routes are very low elevation but with increasing distances. This could be 20 - 80 mile rides but with very low elevations, maybe only as high as 500 feet. I’m sure this would be supported by many senior Zwifter’s out there but no more than myself. This shouldn’t be that difficult, you’re very smart people, please make this happen.
If you are finding the elevation a problem i assumes its the gradient id suggest turning down your training difficulty in settings so that routes feel more flat but still allow you to complete them.
You can put the trainer difficulty down to something very low, or do what lots of people going up Alpe du Zwift do, they use workout mode to set gradient to 0% and ride “up” the mountain at easy low power (but also slow speed).
Otherwise Tempus Fugit and Southern coast is the next flattest option, turning around at “The Grade” roundabout and going back. That is less repetitive than Tempus Fugit on its own and a bit longer. Unfortunately you need to do manual navigation for this.
How about a world for level 100+ riders? That would be cool.
Call it Gravel Mountain?
I am well over level 100 and would prefer no special worlds with level restrictions. We need more new roads in general and not just new loops of what already exists.
How about Mallorca but only if you have a streak of 25 weeks or more? Or on Zwift for five years?
This topic is about an easy route world. Not a level 100 world, and Mallorca probably wouldn’t satisfy the request either. Lowering the Trainer Difficulty setting is the only practical solution here.
And it is not really the nicest solution because you end up with the feel not matching what is on the screen.
The old velodrome circuit that was hinted at would theoretically be helpful by being totally flat - unlike some of these “flat” routes that have 9% gradients in places. But who wants to ride around in 240m or 450m circles for ages indoors?
Absolutely flat routes are quite rare in Zwift, just Fan Flats in Richmond or Tempus Fugit, excluding the slightly hilly section through the oasis.
It’s not a perfect solution, it’s a workaround. The track record for proposals about worlds and roads is very poor, the lead time on world creation is very long (certainly no less than a year), and the most you’ll hear about the proposal is “thanks for your input” but more likely nothing at all. So for anyone interested in more flat riding, the Trainer Difficulty workaround is the thing, otherwise you’re signing up for an indefinite wait for something that most likely will never come. Personally I like a change of scenery and I’m willing to ride with Trainer Difficulty at zero when that suits my objectives. It’s certainly preferable to laps of Tempus Fugit forever which is like a level of hell.
While that is true, climb portals would have to almost be automatic since the process already exists. They have over 50 now. I don’t understand why they have yet to replace Sa Colobra and the Stelvio as they are well renown climbs and not mere passing fancies.
I have seen several suggestions for Senior world, Para world, and especially a Women’s world. The Women’s world is the only choice that would make sense as well as have sufficient support. Women’s group rides are one of the best things about Zwift. The conversations and support are vastly different from other group rides. But, the question is,“Do we need it or simply want it?”
There is no need for any special worlds. I hope the team can fix Gravel Mountain before September as it has already proven to be an embarrassment. Three months without any positive results?
Since it’s virtual anyway, my vote is for downhill world. ![]()
I’ve seen scores of suggestions for roads and worlds, and as far as I can tell nearly all went in the bin, making the proposals and discussions mostly pointless. I have no use for the climb portal since from my perspective it’s “not Zwift” - it’s like some other lower quality game that comes bundled with the thing I actually want. It’s OK with me if they produce a climb portal that is actually a ride on the Florida coast since I’m not going there no matter what the route is.
From the original post, it sounds like the desire is simply for more routes that they can complete. In which case there are just two major variables, one is the distance, and one is the elevation. The elevation can be solved by putting the trainer difficulty down as suggested, then it is just a matter of how much time they want to spend on a bike to determine which routes are still ones they would want to complete. I don’t think we really need a “seniors world” to solve their issue from what I can tell… just a combination of lower trainer difficulty, and more routes in general.
I would also guess with some people, it’s being able to complete them without having to turn down trainer difficulty. Sometimes trainer difficulty is the only option, especially if you are badly injured.
I’m sure there would be interest in some flat routes that really are flat, ie, not with false flat 1-2% gradients everywhere and 4% parts in random places.
Maybe that’s done to keep average speeds lower or to avoid everyone crowding the flattest routes and making everything else a proverbial ghost town.
Thank you Chris. I use a Tacx2 trainer and will look into how to adjust the trainer difficulty, maybe that will assist me. Yeah I’ve done the flatter routes a few times in a row, boring.
If you can do manual navigation, recommend doing Tempus fugit to LAX, then go down the southern coast to the roundabout at “The Grade” then go back, then go up the little hill that you’d use for “Tick Tock” course and then navigate back to Tempus Fugit. It’s at least a bit less repetitive:
That shows at 39.9km with 191m elevation gain. A little bit of elevation but not terrible.
You could also try:
That shows 48.6km with 233m elevation gain. That is about the longest mostly flat route I could think of without looping the same thing a lot of times. Both also avoid the very hilly jungle.
I doubt there is too much scope for Watopia to be expanded further as it is already a very big world.
Looking at the map, there’s plenty of room in the desert to make loads of new flat road sections.
this assumes that Watopia can continue to expand, and I think it is reaching it’s max to be able to run smoothly on lower end devices such as phones and tablets.
That is fine for powerful computers, but what about the minimum spec laptops or Apple TV devices?
Theoretically it should be possible to keep making it bigger, but will need some work to only load the immediate area you are in.
